Default How would Sirius take ove XM?

[QUOTE=roger2001]I have 2 thoughts on this merger talk (I havent really ever weighed in too much)
IF Sirius were to take over XM,

Why do you see Sirius taking over XM? Sirius is the weaker company financially. The Stern contract is a VERY heavy weight around the ankle of Sirius. Honestly, Stern is currently a liability to any future prurchase / merger. XM would be foolish to merge with Sirius until the contract had been renegotiated or until it expires or until (god forbid) Stern decides to retire.

any merger would have to include the boneyard. hair nation is not nearly as good as the boneyard. plus hair nation plays no new music!! tonight i heard the new whitsnake on the boneyard..IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if they were to merge and I hope they won't I would let them know that Escape and Watercolors must stay as well as Standard Time.

Default halfway merger??

Just saw an interesting article by JP Morgan at
Seems they're theory is that the merger has a 50/50 shot at being approved and the way it would go is by having the shareholders merge and keeping the companies seperate for many years with the exeption of sharing some content like Howard/Oprah..NFL/MLB..and combining the music channels and getting rid of overlap channels ie boneyard/hairnation.
One more interesting thing they said that likely each company would keep their own sats in the sky and possibly share a repeater network

I'm going to bump this thread since it looks like this is actually going to happen.

I'm still interested in seeing what people would choose for their channel lineup, at least the music, since that's the one area that's least likely to be tiered.

The only thing that really interests me would be MLB and NHL. Aside from that I am happy with the service I have.

I think both companies are desperate for subscribers and know they would lose quite a bit on both sides if they were to increase the price w/out justifying the means. Cause right now $10-13 is the limit for what I get now and paying more w/out getting more would cause me to doubt continuing my subscription even tho I just signed up this month.

Would you pay $1-3 more a month if that ment you were able to add at least 1 unit for free and got more bandwidth for stations?

Right now I'm not too worried about the prices going up. There IS a monopoly on satellite radio, but they still have their major competitors, mp3 players and HD Radio. HD Radio is the big competitor here. With the merger satellite radio will be able to stand up against HD Radio due to the soon to be available bandwidth, channels, and technology progresses.

I hope it all turns out well but most likely everything will go south, mostly because I like satellite radio (and everything I like usually ends up going south).

I don't mind if the price goes up as long it is still reasonable. I really hope I don't have to buy any new units. But if I have to, I will.

If the price is too high, and I need to buy all new equipment, I'll consider cancelling my subscription.
I hope it doesn't come to that. I'll wait and see as things develop.

I always have a really great CD collection to go back to, if necessary.

Both services will save a great deal of bandwith because we only need one each of the following channels:

50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, CNN, CNN-H, ESPN News, C-SPAN, Fox News, BBCWS, Bloomberg, etc.

The no-brainers for me are the channels that are unique: Cinemagic and The Village from XM stay without question. Fine Tuning blows Sirius Disorder out of the water, so that choice is simple (...and this is from a guy who likes Sirius over XM most of the time!) Spa 73 over XM's new age station, etc.

I will leave it to the folks who know what they are talking about to decide which rock, country and rap stations survive. We don't need 20 rock, 15 country or one rap station (j/k).
