Default WMP11 - Use Expansion

That really stinks man. Sorry to hear.

I did want to add one note:

To make Playlists with WMP11 you need to have the card in your device and you need to chose Stiletto 2 Expansion Card NOT Internal Memory. Do not use a card reader!

Default Adding songs to your preexisting Playlist

To add new songs to your already created Playlists on the SL2 simply drag/drop the new songs to the que and then Right-Click to add to a specific Playlist.

Good info, once I get around to it, I'll probably try it again using WMP. Hopefully my situation using it was just a glitch. There have been several of those along the way.

Why the hell does it take so long to sync using WMP? I have 3.4gb of music, I'm an hour into the sync and it's only 40% complete.

Yeah Virius I find it slow as hell with MSS, YMJ and WMP. Since mine was all screwed up from trying to use WMP, I decided tonight to try a different management style. I guess I'll just have to live without the playlist and just create genres that will allow me to listen to what I want. This seems like a much more simple solution. Anyway. I just took the microSDHC card out, used the adapter and plugged it directly into my computer. Man the files just fly on there. Since I have ripped or downloaded all my music I know I don't have to worry about corrupt files.

It is still recommended if you are downloading from Limewire and places like that and don't know if the files are good or not (just cause they play in WMP doesn't mean they aren't problematic) you should upload them with the microSD card installed in the device as it will cull out bad files. In my opinion the problem with the slow speed is the device (SL2) not the programs. Back when I had an iPod I could load 20 gigs of files in the time it takes me to copy a couple of albums to my SL2.

It's good to know it's not me. My iPod and Archos 504 can be loaded with 10gb of music in a matter of minutes.

I don't know guys. I am not having the same slow transfer speeds with WMP. YMJ was terribly slow for me though and MSS.... well I just don't use it. The only issue I had is if I tried to use my card with it's adapter as opposed to having it inserted in the SL2 the Playlist Names would not stick.

It is for me and another thing that WMP does is throws all this album art on your external or internal memory. I was shocked when I took a look at my memory after removing it. I did some test by using YMJ, MSS and WMP and sure enough WMP was the culprit loading all these album art files. Since the SL2 doesn't even show album art the last thing I want is all this art taking up valuable space. Needless to say, WMP has now been dropped from consideration for use for managing my SL2.

My recommendation is to just remove the microSD card and use the adapter plugged into a USB port. Install all your files, then install it into the SL2. Now if you have a few files here and there to load, using MSS or YMJ even though they are slow to load won't matter that much. The one good thing is those programs don't load a bunch of crap graphics that aren't needed. In terms of making playlist, I think most of us can probably live without them in order to get our files on the device in a timely manner. You can also use YMJ to change the genre basically to create playlist. An example of this is that I created several sub genres and this allows me to basically get the music in playlist but using the genre instead.

If the device allowed for on the fly playlist creation or even supported creating and or editing of playlist then I'd reconsider that, but it simply doesn't and so this is the best alternative for me to be able to manage my music and play what I want when I want. YMJ does allow for changing the name tags for large quanities of files prior loading them on the device, even if the microSD card isn't installed in the device.

SBS doesn't allow copyrighted information from other web sites to be posted in full. I will leave the post with the link to the article.

This was also posted by me early this morning in the Galaxy Forum in a separate thread for discussion as this topic is about playlist creation.

Default Tech question on playlists

I am new to Sirius and the Stiletto 2. I have read most or all of this thread but still have questions.

In the MSS program under the MyPC section, I have my MP3s and several playlists. The MP3s that are in the playlists are also on the external card in the stiletto. Some songs are on more than one playlist.

Is a playlist like a sub folder with an actual copy of the MP3 or just links to the actual MP3?

My goal is to install the playlists onto the stiletto (external) but I don't want to have 2 or 3 copies of the same MP3 on the unit. Can that be done & how? I have read about using WMP to make playlists but in light of what I already have at the present, what is the best way to proceed?

I store my music in a special folder and that is where I go when I want to transfer MP3s onto the MyPC tab, BUT!, where on your computer are the MP3s stored that are in the mypc tab of the MSS program and are they really the MP3's or just links to the MP3's?

Thanks,
Ron

Talking Playlist question revised

I sent email to Sirius asking several things. The only question answered was that the MP3s in a playlist are actual files and not links to the files. This means that if you have 3 playlists and you have the same song in all 3 that you are using up a lot of memory.

Revised questions: 1) Do songs in a playlist get played when you choose to "Shuffle All Songs"? 2)Has anyone been able to store and use playlists on the external memory?

Thanks,
Ron
