Default Possible to get stiletto repaired out of warranty

The jog dial on my stiletto 100 came off and I'm 2 months out of warranty. I called Sirius and they couldn't offer any suggestions.

I have all of the pieces, just don't know how to put it all back together so it works!!!

Anybody here have any ideas???

You might be able to sell it on Ebay for 20 bucks for parts. IE batteries etc. I've seen deals for new ones 100-150. I doubt anyone would fix it for less than that.

Here is a case where a BB or CC extended warranty would of paid for itself.

Since you have all the parts except radio, maybe TSS might have a receiver only to sell you or a returned one that might work at a discounted price. Send him an email, sometimes he can work out a deal.

My dial also came off on my SL100. I could kind of operate the unit by putting the dial back in place, but it would pop off after a few button presses. However, when it was in the home dock, the remote still controlled the unit, and it would work perfectly. I rely on this to be a mobile device, though, so I either needed to get it fixed or replace it. I ended up selling it on eBay (with full disclosure that it was fully functional only if placed in the dock). Separately, I sold the extra battery and the antenna headphones. In the end, I came pretty close to picking up enough to replace the unit. I made sure to get the extended warranty when I bought the replacement (I had purchased the first one as a new item from a private eBay seller, so I had no way to track down a receipt for it). The second one locked up one day and wouldn't turn on, so I took it back to Best Buy (with the warranty), and paid the difference to upgrade to an SL2. I love the size of the SL2 compared to the SL100. If you end up going the replacement route, you should strongly consider paying the extra amount for the newer model.

I don't know that these items can be repaired if the dial comes off. Well--there's probably a way to do it, but I'm guessing that it isn't a cost-effective option.

That's what I was afraid of. Unfortunatley, I purchased the unit directly from Sirius, so extended warranty wasn't an option. I'm in the same boat as Jeff, I can put he dial back temorarily and it works, and works fine in the cradle w/ the remote. Oh well, I did already purchase a SL2 and it's definately a better formfactor. Sounds like I'm off to Ebay....

If you paid with a major credit card and have a copy of the original receipt and warranty terms, you may be able to get the credit card company to help. Most major credit cards double the manufactures warranty up to x number of years. They are detailed on documentation, though, and you do need a copy of the original receipt and warranty. In most cases for items that are less than $500, they will reimburse you for the original cost (less shipping). And in some cases, they will ask you to send the broken item to them. Worth looking into, if this applies to your case. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure the Stiletto's are not a repairable product. Usually if one were to be sent in under warranty. The product would just be replaced. So I suppose a good lesson learned. Get extended warranty next time on this type of product. Ya live, and learn....

I still can't believe with all the threads about Stiletto problems here that people still buy OTHER than from a big box store with the extended warranty!

Each generation of Stilettos has gotten better. But until a quantum leap in quality occurs, those of us who want to maintain our service without lenghty mail order delays will continue to buy locally with the long term (i.e. 4 year) warrranty plans.

Hope you learned your lesson and did likewise with your new SL2, Ian.
