Default Ripped off in Falls Church,VA

Well, the start of my vacation didn't go well. On the way down to Outer Banks,NC stopped in Arlington,Va to stay overnight at my sister-in-laws. We went out to eat, wound up in Falls Church ( don't ask why), came out of the restaurant and the passenger side window was busted and the center console was ransacked and my GPS (Navigon 7100) and my Stiletto 2 is history. I ALMOST never leave my radio in the car.

They must have noticed the marks on the windshield from the mounts.
They done this before apparently, window busted, leaned in and just went thru the console, didn't open the door and set off the alarm.

So I called CS last night and had the service terminated and reported it stolen to them.
Anyone have any experience with CS and reporting stolen equipment ? They told me that if anyone called to activate it, they would get personal info, them tell them that it cant be activated since it was a stolen radio, and inform me of their info by email.
Wonder if they will charge me to reactivate a new radio ?
They did try to sell me one too, kind of funny.

Now I wait for the window to be repaired before continuing on to OBX.

On top of this, my daughter broke her ankle 2 days ago and shes in a boot.
What a memorable start

OH wait --- its hurricane season too, isn't it !!!!!

It's the al-Qaeda man!
The filthy S.O.B's.

It's cool that CS says that they'll keep the SN on file as a stolen unit. I would expect that the would try to charge you the activation fee. It's not their fault the radio got nabbed. You may be able to talk them out of charging you for it if you're lucky.

One of my best friends had his stolen. He called to report it stolen and Sirius CS told him they could do nothing without a police report. Not only that, when the radio was activated later, he was being hit for the bills. Go figure that one out. As far as he knew, they didn't get any credit card or bank info out of his car.

Might want to check with your insurance company. I know State Farm for example on some full coverage policies actually cover not only to fix the broken window, but will also cover stolen items.

Sorry to hear about this. Freaking folks like this piss me off.

Well, my replacement SL2 came today ( from Ebay, brand new NIB), set it up, called CS activated it, life is good, right. it would shutdown after 15-20 mins,
when I caught it it showed Error... shutdown, restart and sit at the menu screen. Did it like 5 times on me. I checked the Firmware versions and it was down level.
Tried to update via MSS, wouldn't connect to the PC, drivers wouldn't load.
While trying to load drivers ( it was on WiFi), it downloaded and installed via WiFi, Great right ....... Well, it restarted , and now its bricked !!!!! keeps kicking Error and restart and restarting again.

Off to Device Recovery land. Finishes in about 25 mins, looks like its all updated to the correct Firmware now.

Well, lets see what fun Im in for now. It did update the channels when I first set it up this afternoon.

I also noticed that it seemed warmer than normal as the battery was charging. That what I thought at first it was shutting down.

See how it goes now.

If I'd only taken my old one out of the car .......

Its great to have one back again.

No More IF's.... What's done is done... I hope this person who ripped you off get's his just due...

In Northern VA we've seen a lot of these lately, My friend down the street got his GPS ripped off and windows smashed.

Just outside Reston Town Center, they have one of those big portable electronic signs warning moterists to remove GPS from Cars when Parked. People now have to use window wipes to clean off the circle left from the rubber suction cup off their window to remove signs that this is one in the car.

The problem is the GPS's are like cash now. Look on ebay and the good ones easily sell for a few hundred bucks. Although most are not sold on ebay, but at computer shows, Even at the latest Ham Fest I went to, I saw a table full of gps units. I wondered where this guy got all of these units from.

I'm sure the person who ripped you off did not know this was a sat radio and was just looking to get some quick cash.

Glad you got your unit working. Now forget about what happened, sit back and listen and enjoy!

note to self: don't buy a gps. my stiletto dock above my alpine stereo prolly brings enough attention.

I can never decide if its better to leave my empty S50 dock showing or hide it which might cause more interest. My car draws enough attention on its own.

The handful of times GPS might be handy per year doesn't justify the price to me. I have the mobile Google Maps app on my Blackberry and that does the job when needed.
