Default SL2 Wants Username/PW for Wifi

Hey Guys, I've been having problems getting the internet radio to work when I try to connect to my colleges wifi internet. I know for a laptop you need to use a username and password for logging in before you can access the internet. They have a page set up for getting in and all that stuff. It shows up a MCCWLAN on my stiletto internet page as the only router in range. It doesn't have a lock or anything next to the router name. But when I connect I enter my schools username and password then it goes to say authorizing then it cycles back to the page to enter your info.

It would be kind of pointless for the stiletto to put that page on if you aren't able to actually get past it. I am guessing I am stuck or is there any other way to by pass it. There is a terrestrial tower a few miles away but inside its hard to pick up. I somehow got into a network on the 1st or 2nd day of classes to listen to internet radio but now it asks for a log in page.

Thanks for your help

Unfortunatly username/password screens cannot be handled by the SL2. A locked network with e WPA encryption key it can handle. A username/password it cannot.

I don't know if you could get your own WiFi router hooked to the network and access the internet that way. Let the router handle the login stuff.

I don't want to sound like I'm disagreeing with IRBS. I lurk and know that he's always a good source for information.

In this case, however, I have to mention that the SL2 will support "some" username/password wifi hotspots. For example, I've used mine at Starbucks. They have an open access point (no lock icon), but it does require that I provide my T-Mobile username and password in order to connect.

Having used my laptop at various hotspots around the country, I think it depends on how they have their network setup as to whether the SL2 will work with it. I have the most trouble trying to use it at hotels with "free wifi", but I can tell when I connect my laptop that the login process is a lot more complicated than some others. I think if it's at all complicated, the SL2 won't handle it.

Hmmm ... this could be. But everyplace I have tried which requires username/password, my SL2 has failed to negotiate even to the point it asks me for them. I think your last sentence is probably the million dollar answer. If it is complicated at all .... the SL2 fails.

Default Possible no Browser

Maybe the reason you don't have full access to your collage network is the SL2 has no browser and you can't go to the next page (Advertising) this is required to get to the net. Many places do that so devices like the SL2, Zune, etc don't use all the bandwidth. Just a guess.

I think it is basiclly like this IF I understand it. If you have to only log into ONE thing then it will work if you have to log into TWO things it will NOT work.

For example. At home I have wireless and all I need to do is give the wireless security key to my Stiletto and it logs in fine.

At work I have wireless that has a security key, BUT I also have a network user name and password that needs to be put in once I get past the wireless access key. My stiletto allows me to enter the wireless access key, BUT fails getting to the internet because I can not enter the user name and password for the internet proxy we have.

If that makes sense at all ......
