Unhappy SL100 Shutting Down constantly

Long time lurker in these forums, finally got my own username just so I could post my experience.

I've always wondered why so many of you have had troubles with your Stiletto units. My SL100 worked flawlessly for over 1.5 years. I dropped that thing more times than I could count. Sure, it would get locked up once in awhile when switching between channels or wifi/sat. But for the most part, it worked great.

So a week ago I came down in the morning to grab the device out of the home dock. I often leave it in the dock at night to record Jam On's hour of live Phish. The display looked like it was locked up, so I used the remote to try to change the radio from satellite to the library. It went into my library and all of the sudden everything was gone. I knkew this wasn't a good sign, so I took the device out and tried to shut it down. No response. So I had to remove the battery altogether.

Gave it a minute and put the battery back on. It started loading up, but once it got to 5 bars, it said "Shutting Down", and powered itself off. It's been doing this ever since. I can't even do a Options+Display device reset, because the device needs to be on to accomplish this. Called customer support and was basically told I had a dead device. Sorry, thanks for calling.

Quite frustrating. I suspect that it was somehow a heat issue, even though it was just in the dock all night and my house is 68 degrees right now. You'd think it would've broken when I dropped it, not when it was sitting in its home.

Anyway, feeling somewhat burned, I decided to just buy a cheaper, used S2 on eBay which should be here by the end of the week. I'm excited for the S2, despite a lot of the problems I've read about.

So if anyone has seen a solution to this "Shutting Down" problem, let me know. I do hate to lose this device, because I've come to realize in the last two weeks that I'm hopelessly addicted to it.

I would try a device recovery. I had a similar situation with my SL2 and did it. It worked fine for a while. I have now done 2. I think its a fact of life with this device that it will require an occasional recovery.

If its a hardware problem, this will not fix it.

You can't have been a lurker here for TOO long, or you would have used your BB or CC extended warranty and already have been back in business with your brand new, warranty exchanged S2.

i had a similar problem last week, well it's been going on for awhile i was procrastinating taking it back b/c i hate listening to regular radio.
It's been over heating since last summer, and i put off getting a replacement as i heard if they couldn't fix the SL100 they'd give you a S2. So i held off and held of then it got "better" and wouldn't keep shuttind down over last winter. So i thought i was in the clear. Then this summer it started acting up a little, but tolerable. Finally the last 2 weeks were hell. I wanted to wait to see if the 100/101 guys were going on holidays and i was going to get it fixed/replaced on the week they had off.

I left my unit on over night in my car to record a replay. Came back out and tried to start it up on the way to work, boots to the 4th of 5th bar, and says "shutting down" couldn't get it to work. So took it to BB (i had a 3 year PSP) the return lady gave me a hard time (because it was a gift from a BB employee). That after standing in line for 30 minutes b/c there was only one person actually doing work behind the desks, the other 6 seemed like they were enjoying a nice social hour not getting much done. It was also about 30 minutes to close when i finally got up to talk to the lady.
So she finally took just my unit and the battery (which had melted i think, it has balooned out and pushed in the back of my stiletto, and now the battery won't connect properly). And i took the rest of my package home.
Fast forward to today, i get a call from BB saying, your unit is back, it doesn't fall under warrenty, come pick it up, bye. So now am royally PO'd, and am seeing a heated discussion with a manager shortly.

Just wondering a couple things, will getting a present from a employee void my PSP if i bought the PSP a week after i recieved the SL100 (bought PSP myself). I can't find that in any of their literature i've read, but have seen "if we can't fix it to OEM specs, we'll replace it" so am dieing to see how my unit doesn't get covered. Will update when i get back.
