Default Woot Woot.....

So I have been looking at getting a Stilleto 2.

Well I found one on CL for $75, and they retail for over $300. The best part is I get home and fire it up and it already has a paid subsription. I am in love already. It did not come with anything but the unit, battery, and antenna headphones. But who cares, I am picking up a charger tomorrow for $20 so I have $95 tied up in it and it works great.

Just found out who ever set it up also paid for the Premium internet as well. It just keeps getting better.

I am going to ride out this subsription as long as it last.

Why do you say that? The person seemed to know a lot about it and have all the stuff for it.

A knowledgable thief. The fact it did not come with anything that the SL2 comes with from the box would be the first clue (charger, USB cable, software CD, manual, etc.).

With Sirius, they have taken the philosophy that they don't want to screw a new subscriber by refusing activation on a stolen radio. XM takes the opposite approach in protecting current subs by saying if a radio is reported stolen, it can only be re-activated by the person who owned it. If this was XM, once the deactivation signal happened, you would not be able to activate it again.

I did not even think about that, should i keep using it? The thing is it already has a subscription activated.

So when buying an XM even if it is legit you can not activate it under another name? IF that is the case I would never use them.

With used satrad equipment it is buyer beware. Like I said with Sirius you should be ok. I would expect service to die (particularly the internet) in short order. You may get a month or 2 or maybe even longer (Sirius has a problem with deactivating old radios) from the SATs. You should be able to subscribe yourself after that happens (or any time ... I don't think your sub is 'active' .. the disconnect just hasn't reached you).

If you buy a legit XM receiver (new or used) you can activate it. But if you buy used and the previous owner has called XM and reported it stolen, you would be SOL. Personally I spend the extra $ and buy new satrad equipment. With used you never know if you are getting legit used stuff or stolen or whether the seller is trustworthy.

I was just looking at if like this

Used $75

New $250

Given the condition of the unit I got it seemed stupid to pay 4 X the price for a new one.

Guess I will ride this out then connect it when it dies.

I honestly never though about this till posting on here or I would not have bought it, what if it would have been a set up?

I have just had such good luck buying things locally of of CL that this never crossed my mind.

It could have been a gift or something that someone didn't want.

Her story was she was given it sometime last year. Her sister was going to buy it so she let her take with her to NY. Well her sister decided not to buy it and brought the radio with her when she visited but left all of the accessories for it at home. She told me if I would email her my address she would get her sister to mail me all of the stuff for it, but now I am leery about giving the chick my address.

Thieves are not that detailed. They usually look for quick easy aquisitions not planned road trips. You could get a PO box.
