Exclamation Scheduled recording Stiletto with the Soloist - A must read

For a second I thought this was a bust. I scheduled a recording, shut the Stiletto with the remote (also shuts down the Soloist). Came back after the recording time was over. Fired up by remote (fires both Soloist and Stiletto together) Went to recently recorded. Nothing was there. I thought maybe I set a time wrong so I redid the schedule again very carefully. Shut down with the remote and let it do its thing. Came back after the scheduled recording time, again checked in the recently recorded folder and again nothing. At this point I said to myself we cant schedule recordings using the Soloist dock!

As a last resort I did this. At this time both the Stiletto and the Soloist were on. I scheduled another recording carefully but only this time I manually put the stiletto in sleep mode (did not use remote) Stiletto went into sleep mode, Soloist showed SIRIUS on its display. Came back after the scheduled recording time and bingo the recorded segment was there! WHEW, it does work, but you MUST put the Stiletto in sleep mode manually.

Anyone else experiment with this? I was on the verge of major dissappointment but now I am as happy as a pig in shit!

The Soloist was still on. When the time is showing on the Soloist it is off. When you see 'Sirius' it's on. I haven't tried a lot but the remote must have turned the Stilleto off, it has to be on sleep mode to record.

Default time

Yes the Soloist was ON because instead of the time listed on the Soloist the display said SIRIUS.

When you use the remote to shut down the Stiletto it definatly puts it in sleep mode, but it also shuts off the Soloist.

So 2 things must be present to work, The Soloist MUST be ON and the Stiletto in sleep mode (done manually)

The bottom line is that you can't power down the Soloist or else the Stiletto does not sense it's on AC power and therefore it ignores the scheduled recording.

I tried leaving the Soloist on and putting the stilleto in sleep mode to make a recording and it did not work. Good signal. Any ideas?

When you say it did not work, do you mean it didn't come on? Because it won't light up while it is recording.. check to make sure the recording isn't there.

As DAB states, the Soloist must be on for the scheduled recordings start. The Soloist has a Music timer that can be set to facilitate this. It sets up a start and stop time when to turn on the soloist dock. This is independent of the times you set on the stiletto itself. Just make sure you setup the Soloist timer to be on prior to the Stiletto time.

I don't know what a "soloist" is. I guess it is a docking station for another kind of Sirius radio. In any event, in what way is this different than the Stiletto's docking station that is suppose to be out in a couple weeks? I need the home dock badly but I can't see waiting on the Stiletto docking station if these things are interchangeable.

The soloist is just another universal dock, but it has a flat membrane speaker system and alarm and timer capabilities. It gives the Stiletto a sleep timer, Alarm Clock, and Music timer and allows connection to external antenna and usb ports. It has aux inputs and outputs as well as headphone jacks.

Here was a post of me putting the thing together.

Default OK starting to make sense now

I am begginging to understand how this recording thing works now. There are 2 timers on the Soloist, a MUSIC timer and a SLEEP timer. Both can be set seperatly. The MUSIC timer must be set for the same times you have the Stiletto set to record for unattended recording. The SLEEP timer is just that a timer to wake you up with.

Now tring to figure out the pre setting of channels. You can preset 3 bands A B and C with 10 settings in each band for a total of 30 pre sets. M Rubin have you figured out how to set a pret set using the remote with the Stiletto docked???

The SLEEP timer is not to wake you with, that is the ALARM. The SLEEP is what you use to go to bed with. You set it for the amount of time you want to listen to the radio before it automatically turns the radio off. It actually puts the radio in a sleep mode.

I think the difference between the ALARM and the MUSIC TIMER is that the ALARM does not have an OFF setting, where the MUSIC TIMER allows for a STOP time. I have not set the ALARM yet, only the MUSIC TIMER.

I have not done anything with the presets yet either. I just have one set A1 which is set to Howard 100.

See this post for a better definition of the MUSIC and SLEEP timers:

I checked to make sure and the recording was not there. I left the stiletto on while in the soloist so I would not miss the recording of Howard this morning, and the stilleto actually shut itself off after the recording was done

I'm having same issue with SL2. Program 15 min test recording. Put Soloist on, turn SL2 off manually (sleep mode). Wait. check. No recording.

This is an old thread you dug up.... Just as I advised in another thread on the same subject, just leave it on. This is the ONLY way you can insure that you'll get it to record. I suggest the home dock for serious recording because the Soloist is just too problematic. Every failure I've ever had was associated with the Soloist.
