I would guess that you must of had an issue with your wired relay. It does work and it works well.

Give the Car Dock another chance. This time make sure the Relay is installed and working.
I wish it were that easy. From my earlier posts, I noted that I had an existing unit in my vehicle and was using the wired FM relay already. I tried the old relay and the one that shipped with the Stiletto dock (they're both the same) and I had the same issues with both so it's not the relay.

The problem is that the FM transmitter is just so much weaker now that it's just not an option for me. The volume is much lower than my JVC and the reception is not as good, regardless of which FM station I chose. When I reinstalled the good ol' JVC after taking the Stiletto car dock out was again perfect, both reception and volume, etc. Also, this was my 2nd car dock so I know its just the way it is.

Believe me I wanted it to work since I'm a big fan of the Stiletto and SIRIUS, plus unfortunately there's no aux input option in my vehicle and my desire of a clean looking installation dissuaded me from going back to using a cassette adapter (which when I tried it sounded great incidentally).

Again, I'll be perfectly happy with my JVC in my vehicle and the Stiletto everywhere else. And maybe there will be some mods or tweaking of the FM transmitter in Stiletto car dock down the road so who knows. It's just difficult to take when you've been with SIRIUS a while to see the negative changes like this one in the FM transmitter-neutering which was clearly only due to FCC/RIAA pressure.

all fm transmitters on all new satellite radio devices are all pretty much crippled.
apparently this may not be true of _ALL_ satellite radio devices as xmsr has come up with a simple method for direct connecting they call it sure_connect whjere you run an extra wire to your fm antenna or with a adhesive patch that sticks on the glass that is pretty much like a wired mod. but without the install hassles. i dont have one or anything but they say it is better than the wireless transmitters but almost as easy to install but i think siri does not have one of these they just use a stickon wire on the glass to try to help it.

I think I saw a picture of that xm thing you mentioned. I don't know that it would be better, just maybe less hassle taking your radio out and connecting the fm modulator. All the xm one does is send the signal directly to the external antenna. the sirius one is sending the signal directly into the antenna connection on the reciever. I think fm modulator makes the whole setup look cleaner because it is hidden behind the dash..

'nother question. all of you talk about the car dock. Is there any way to extend the signal of the home dock (without taking the thing apart and soldering)?

Angry

Just drove from Nashville to Atlanta and this thing is a real POS!! As from my earlier post the signal keeps cutting out. Not sure if it is the Stiletto's extremely weak signal or the crappy FM relay but I will be driving passed a semi and I will lose signal. I drive passed a building I lose signal. Seems anything higher than my truck (F-150) and I lose signal until I pass it. Even doing 75mph down the interstate and go under an overpass for that brief .5 secs and it cuts off as it always says ... Aquiring Signal. That is f'ning pathetic. I was even at a stop light with no buildings or trees near me and it would cut off for a brief 2-4 secs. Looks like it's back to the S50 and sending the Stiletto and FM relay straight up Sirius's azz!!

You don't have a FM Modulator problem, you have an Antenna problem. Do you have the External antenna on top of your Truck? I hope you are not trying to use the internal Stiletto antenna, because that is what it sounds like. When you get the Aquiring Signal, it is because the radio cannot get a signal from the Satillite. With the external antenna, you should get 3 bars all the time maybe 2 or 1 when driving under some obstruction like trees. So check your antenna connection or get an external antenna whichever is the case.

Wow, my old S50 (actually my 4th one, but it was new in July) is looking better and better.

I'm trying to keep an open mind here, but the Stiletto disadvantages are already outweighing the potential advantages.

With zero need for Wifi or portable reception, as long as my S50 is working reasonably well in both my car and house I'm hard pressed to see a need to exchange it for the Stiletto.

I am using the same antenna that came with the S50 mounted on the roof of my truck. I only get 1 bar of signal 2 verrry rarely.

You've got an antenna problem, I get 3 bars rock solid. I've said it a hundred times and now I'll say it again. A lot of the aquiring signal issues that folks had with the S50 was related to crappy antennas. I know many always dismissed this, but over the years I have found many, many crappy antennas. The QA on these antennas are pathetic.

Try another antenna and see if that doesn't do the trick. If not then it is something else. Could be a bad dock, but you'll have to go through the elimination process to find out.

I just unhooked the antenna that came with the S50 and hooked up the antenna that came with the Stiletto and there is no difference. I just did a comparison between the two monitering the signal strengths and the S50 has 100% sat signal and about 60-100% ter signal. The Stiletto has about 40% sat signal and 10-40% ter signal. Only other thing to check now is either a bad relay, bad stiletto, or car dock. I don't think it would be a bad relay as I was using it as I was monitering the S50.

This has nothing to do with the relay. My next target would be the dock itself. Try swapping it out if you can.

Called Crutchfield about it and they were going to sent me another dock but they are sold out so now I have to wait until they come in stock now. It's a never ending story.

EDIT:
Just got my replacement car dock and I got 3 bars now. Funny thing is I also got my home dock today as well and that seems to have the same issue only I don't get any sat signal what do ever. Good grief doesn't Direct even test there products before they leave the plant?
