Default Stiletto and Wifi sound quality (Premium?)

From what I read the sound quality for the Stiletto when it grabs the station via Wifi is just above AM quality.

I also read that if I were to pay for Premium, then the Stiletto would get a higher quality.

Is this true? I want to replace my current radio in the home, because the signal keeps getting lost and I'm depending upon the ground repeater for the current radio.

thanks.

no matter if you pay for the Premium your stiletto will still get the lower quality via wifi.

some say with a firmware upgrade that they could open this up to us.

but i would think that there would be alot of buffering issues with the higher rate.

this could be a sticky because alot of people are asking this question.

Has anyone heard any more on this? I would love to have a better streaming quality. Thats the only shortcoming on this unit.

How would the Stiletto have buffering issues any more than a desktop or laptop computer utilizing a 802.11b wireless connection? I am listening to Sirius premium internet streaming right now on my laptop over a 802.11b connection with no buffering issues.

Now if you had dial-up internet, I could see this being an issue, but a 129Kbit data stream over cable or DSL these days shouldn't be a problem unless you're simultaneously eating up your bandwidth with a filesharing program or something similiar.

If the Stiletto upgraded the Wi-Fi sound quality I would actually use it in my house, since I have zero satellite reception no matter where I go in here, and I really don't want to figure out a way to mount my antenna outside and run the cable all the way to my living room. It's better quality and just plain easier for me to just hook my desktop up to my speakers and play it rather than using the Stiletto in the home kit. Come on Sirius, at least give us the option for the premium stream! ;-)

Assuming the Stiletto has enough processing power to decode a higher bitrate, accept data more periodically, and run the rest of the device at the same time then I would suspect there will be no problems. I wouldn't necessarly compare a device like this to a destop PC.

With that said...
Considering the Stiletto zips through chapter selections while recording satellite I would imagine there is enough horsepower to take on a higher bitrate feed. Along with recording I would think chapter selections would be the greatest CPU intensive process taking place on the device. The Stiletto seems to handle both at the same time quite easily so I would think a higher bitrate would be very doable.

I also don't believe 802.11b would limit the device in any way regardless of bitrate.

I think at home where you have access to all of the bandwidth you are paying for, you probably wouldn't have any problems. But the question comes into play when going to hot spots where you may or may not be able to get enough bandwidth via the connection to support a full 128kb stream without rebuffering over and over. I was recently at a local coffee shop and there must have been 15 people in there on notebooks and I found my Stiletto @ 32kb rebuffered a few times, so I can imagine what would happen if it were 128kb, it probably would have just constantly rebuffered. So the rebuffering issue is a legit concern and one that Zing has to address before rolling it out. Someone made a suggestion I liked which is that they simply have a place in the network connection setup for each hotspot to be able to tell it to stream at 32kb or 128kb. This way it is configurable for the specific hotspots you are visiting and any limitation they may have.

It doesn't, for a single user.
