Question File Transfer

I got my new Stiletto..yay...but I can't seem to do what I want with it.

What I would like to do is record the Howard Stern show in a home dock (which i don't have yet). Then I would like to be able to transfer that show to another MP3 player. But when I record a show, it does not appear in the directory of the Stiletto in Window's Explorer, and it doesn't allow me to transfer via the software included.

How can I transfer my content from Stiletto to PC to listen on my MP3 player?

You can't and you should ask the RIAA why not.

Well, I'm still confused then. Not sure what good recording content is if you can't listen to it. I drive to work when howard is on, so i'd have to leave the stiletto in the car while i work so that i can record the show. that would bake it in the sun and probably not be good for it.

I could record it in the dock at home, but then i don't have it in the car because i drive when i record. So i might as well listen to it live, which i can't do because i'm at work about 40 minutes after the show starts.

The thing can't pick up satellite inside, so that option is out.

It can't record streaming from the WiFi mode.

Am I missing something here or is this device not useful for me unless i can transfer the content.

And i'm not interested in riaa stuff either, i just want to know how i can enjoy the content i have paid for.

thanks

You can always run the line out from the dock to your computer. Record the show and turn it into an mp3 or wav file.

Default Simple Solution

Well, after talking to the Sirius folks, they confirmed that the Stiletto won't allow stuff to be pulled from it.

I got a bit of an education as to how stuff works now as they call the act transferring the data from the stiletto "stealing". that just floored me because i just want to dock my player and listen to it while i drive to work when it's convenient on a different machine. it isn't stealing on my TIVO when i can transfer the tv i record onto my laptop with the software they provide and watch it somewhere else.

anyway, it sounds like this riaa crap is tying things up so badly that one day they will consider it illegal to even listen to the stuff. The Sirius people I talked to seemed to be frustrated by it too and don't get it, and agreed that the thing wouldn't work in my situation.

Anyway, the solution was simple, take the thing back. I give them credit because they didn't make a big stink about it, and refunded my account, and Best Buy also took my receiver back no questions asked. I'm just sad that I still can't listen to Howard anymore.

OBK, i guess i could do that, but jeesh, that's recording something real time and a big setup. i don't want to do that much work to listen to radio. the stiletto was supposed to make things easier, not a complicated mess.

It does make things easier for most of us, you just have a special situation. And yes, direct recording wouldn't make much sense for most people, would take you four hours to record the show too the computer. You can always leave the stiletto at home, record the show, transfer it to a computer, and listen to that recording via mp3 the next day. You would always be a day behind, but could always hear howard if that's your thing. Again, I know, not what you wanted. To each his own, ya know?

Obk,

YES! That is exactly what I wanted to do. I want to record the show in the home dock, and transfer it to my MP3 player in the car and listen to that while i drive. I don't mind being a day behind.

BUT....The problem is that you can NOT transfer the files out of the Stiletto to any other device in any fashion. The only option would be to record it real time like you mentioned, and that is just a non starter because of difficulty.

record it on your computer through the online stream, then send it to the mp3 player. Use total recorder to record it.

I'm guessing you don't have a home dock. I just record the replay at night and listen to it the next day. Just a thought.

what time is the replay at night?
that online recording might not be bad either.
As we know, the crappy part is that it has to be done in real time.

The third broadcast of the show is around 12:00 am (eastern time) each night till about 5:00 am. That can vary depending on how long his show is. I just record it at night and listen to it on the go the next morning. I'm a day behind, but it works for me.
