Post Car dock reviews?

I just wanted some reviews of the car dock if you have yours already. It took a ton of will power not to buy one at Best Buy this weekend. I ordered mine from TSS.

Thumbs up

Got mine from BB on Saturday...

AWESOME!

Love the new style antenne (much lower profile then my XACT model) and cig plug. With a couple of new drill holes I mounted it with it's own screws to my pro-clip mount.. looks great.

There is more static on the FM transmitter then on previous radios (FCC bastages..) so I'm considering my options for the FM direct connect.

Overall, it's a great little piece of hardware.

works great for me too. i have an AUX port on my stereo so i dont need to worry about the FM transmitter. having the remote is something i really missed, so im glad to have it back. not taking a pic, cause my cables aren't hidden or anything, not gonna bother

I have an AUX port as well, so FM mod isn't really needed. I want it so bad though! What's this I hear about "finger grips"? What does that mean?

Here is my short review of the Car Kit:

I really like the car kit and it does it's job fine. however, I liked the S50 car dock much better.

The Stiletto dock is not quite as fast as the S50 dock when you change the channel. Also, the preset buttons are a little small (I dont' have fat fingers either) and it is easy to hit two at a time.

It is sort of featureless as you use the Stiletto to get to your playlists and recordings, unlike the S50 dock that had the three buttons on it to go to playlists, sort by and the jump button.

I have not used the new antenna as I already had a dot micro installed. is this one any better than the dot micro that came with the S50?

I am also wondering about the antenna. I have the dot micro installed from my S50 and don't want to really change it.

I doubt that the one included with the Stiletto Car Dock is any better than the dot micro. I am using the dot micro on my company van and I've been really impressed with the reception of the Stiletto and find it much better than the S50 was. I don't get drop-outs in places that I use too.

im using the antenna from the universal dock, i was too lazy to take it off and put the stiletto one on when i returned the universal car dock to CC works great though, even better then my starmate replay antenna.

Default Answer to Stiletto weak fm transmitter

I was initially disappointed with the fm transmitter on the stiletto until I installed a self made antenna into the fm jack on the bottom of the car dock . Just use a 2.5 mm jack that is readily available at radio shack and solder a wire length of maybe a foot or two to the center pin, there is a post on this board somewhere with pictures on how to do this. Ideally you could make the wire length a quarter wavelength of the transmitting frequency your radio is tuned to receive the Stiletto. Search Google and you can find a frequency wavelength to feet conversion tool. Adding the little antenna to the car dock cleaned up the static without installing the fm direct connect modulator, also I just have my satellite receiving antenna laying on the dash and it the whole setup works great.

Not having the direct FM connection, I'm getting the cleanest sound with my S50 by using a cassette adapter plugged into the headphone jack. Is the headphone plug as accessible (ie on the top, like with the S50) on the Stiletto for this same interface?

I recently replaced my Audiovox PNP1 car kit with the Stiletto car kit. Everything went very well and I am glad to have the PNP mountain off of my dash. The Stiletto fits directly on the dash in places the PNP would never fit.

The one thing that made the job harder was the FM modulator. I already had one for the PNP wired to my radio. I was planning on using that one with the Stiletto so I would not have to take the dash apart. But, the plug on the bottom of the Stiletto car dock is smaller than that of the PNP. So, could not reuse the already installed FM mod and had to tear the dash apart and put in the new one.

Why can't there be standards?

The headphone jack is actually on the bottom of the unit, so it wouldn't be accessible while on the dock.

You had a 1g tuner and you replaced it with a 3g tuner, well actually these Stiletto is probably a 3.5g tuner and starting with that version the docking connector and plug-ins are all standard now. It just took them 3.5g's to get there. Those old 1.g tuners were barely interchangeable with the 2.g tuners because they were so freaking big.

1g iPods were not compatible with later version either... that did come in time. I will give XM credit they more or less standarized their docking connectors from the release of their 2.0g tuners and have never looked back.

Yikes, that's what I was afraid of. Looks like Sirius really dropped the ball with some of the features on this model. What happened to having all of the advantages of a previous model - plus a few enhancements (ie Wifi, portable radio capability) - when a new receiver comes out?

Again - the reason foreign cars are still so superior to American designed ones.
