Default Best Warranty Plan?

I want to buy Stiletto, and I want maximum protection. Between Best Buy and Circuit City, which has the best exteded warranty plan?

I say BB, I got a 4 year warranty for $40. CC has a 2 year warranty for $40.
I bought the BB.

The one thing I like about the CC warranty is that when it is about to expire, they send you a notice and ask if you want to extend it. I don't know if they offer this on all items, but they did offer this on an iPAQ and a component system I purchased from them.

I'd go with BB too. I think the CC 4 year plan was $79.99, which is twice as much as the BB plan. So you can either spend the same $40 at both stores and get 2 less warranty years at CC, or you can spend twice as much at CC and get the same 4 year warranty that BB offers. Basically, the BB warranty is twice as good as CC's either in years or in price.

I also like the Best Buy plan. I was able to upgrade from my S50 to the Stiletto with their plan. I only had to pay $20 difference. They are also really cool about replacing your unit if you have problems.

Ditto. I'm on my 4th S50 from BB. First 3 were exchanged no questions asked, and I've been promised when (if) I get ready for a Stiletto, just bring it in.

I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly.

BB will only make you pay the difference if the other unit has a problem, right?

I would like to think that if Sirius releases a new portable in the near future that under the BB plan, I would only have to pay the difference, but that seems too good to be true. Does this only apply to defective units?

If the unit is still under the original 1 year warranty, you only have to pay the difference. If the 1 year warranty is up and you bought the 4 year, you have to pay the difference, PLUS buy a new warranty (If you want one). It is still cheaper than buying the Stiletto, or new unit later on. Once you upgrade though the 1 year warranty stays with the ORIGINAL unit. For example I got the S50 11/25/2005. I upgraded the beginning of October to the Stiletto, but my 1 year warranty for Best Buy still ends 11/25/2006. It doesn't start new once you upgrade. Make sense?

It does make sense and it sounds like a great deal. I'm really glad I purchased the 4 years BB plan. Thanks for clarifying.

Question Questions......

Questions:
1.) Does that include the S50 docks (since they're incompatible with the Stiletto)? Did you get a refund on those or credit upgrade for the Stiletto docks?

2.) So the BB plan allows for upgrades to newer models even if your existing unit is functioning perfectly? Why did you pay $20 for the upgrade?...

3.) If one is looking to replace one's model for a newer model in 2 years and you have a 4 year warranty plan, will BB credit/transfer the existing plan to the newer model?...

1. I acually only brought in the actual S50. I still have the dock and everything. They just didn't care about that.

2. I had to pay $20 because that was the difference between the cost of the Stiletto, and what I paid for the S50

3. As far as I was told, if you exchange a unit after the 1 year warranty is up, you have to pay for a new protection plan for the unit. So if upgrading from the S50 to the Stiletto, you have to pay the $20 difference, plus $40 for a new 4 year warranty.

Only if the unit is defective will they replace it according to the warrrenty, but on the other hand they usually do not check the unit to see if it is working or not, they accept your statement that the unit isn't working.

This is true for both BB and Curcuit City in my experience.

They did check the last time I brought it in, and he was saying it worked fine. But it really didn't so I kept telling him, "Trust me, I know it isn't working right." He then gave me a new one.

I never buy warranties except for portable products. BB has the best. After 3 S50 returns, now on my 4th I didn't hesitate to buy another $40 plan for my Stiletto. $10 a year for a little peace of mind isn't bad.
