Stiletto Purchasing Question
Default Stiletto Purchasing Question

Hello everyone!

I posted some incessant Stiletto questions on here not too long ago and I wanted to say a quick word of thanks to everyone who helped me out.

The upshot of it all is that I've decided to buy one and will be buying that plus a unit for my father in law. I can get a pretty hefty discount at the sirius.com shop thanks to promo codes (you may have seen my plea for more on the Dogstar section) but I wanted to ask if there's any risks or advantages to buying direct from Sirius. I know a lot of you have used Best Buy and Circuit City, so is buying direct risky or did you just do it at the box stores for convenience?

HFS,
Some people have had aweful experiences with shop sirius. I never used it. IMO..I like the so called big box stores because you can always go there and talk to a person face to face. If you don't mind that the internet is a great way to save money.

good luck!!

Hard call.... I went with CC because I could get an in-store return warranty. After the S50, I didn't want to have to deal with sending it in for repairs if it broke. On the other hand, I've had my Stiletto for a month or so, have used it for 8 hrs/day, everyday, and haven't had a single problem yet. Seems like everyone is having that same experience. It's a much, much better unit than the S50.

I bought mine at Circuit City simply because they had it in stock. Before I purchased it there, I placed an order through sirius on 10/24/06, and at the time, I was told it would ship on 10/30/06. The day after I ordered it, I went to Circuit City's website, and they had them in stock (they did not the day I ordered it) so I canceled my order from sirius, and bought from CC (which by the way had it on sale 15% off as well, extra bonus woot! ). I since got an email from sirius on or about the 5th of this month saying that my unit would not ship until the 17th, so apparently my order was never canceled as I had thought (which I have since corrected), and if I had stuck with ordering from sirius, I would have had to wait another entire month to get my radio, which would have really sucked.

So I am glad I ordered from CC...as can be quite planly seen.

The HUGE advantage buying from BB or CC is the ability to purchase an extended warranty. Let's face it, the Stiletto is like buying a car in its first year of production. It's a big risk. I owned a 1989 Ford Probe GT...I know!

$40 gives you peace of mind for 4 years. No headaches dealing with Sirius Warranty Dept. I NEVER buy the extended warranty because I feel it's a rip-off....EXCEPT in this case.

My case exactly. I was happy to spend the extra money and get the warranty. I have NEVER bought an extended warranty in the past but, after meeting the S50, I will be buying them for my Sirius portables.
