Default Stilletto Questions and Concerns

I have an S50 and have never really had any of the horror stories that I have read from others. However, I was concerned about the long term viability of the S50, so I called Sirius. After pushing myself a couple of levels through the phone system, I got ahold of a guy in the Product Support team. After dicussing with him for awhile, he indicated to me that if I go out and purchase a Stilleto, then fax the receipt in, Sirius will refund the current cost of an S50 ($300) to the credit card on my account. he indicated that Sirius is going to buy back S50s this way, so they can bring them in and reengineer them and re-release them as a new product. He also mentioned that the S50 and Stilleto will be running the same firmware in the future. I got all of the information to fax in the receipt and then went out and purchased a new Stiletto.

I must say, I am quite disappointed in the performance. While there are many nice features, the reception is very poor. I live in San Diego and there are only 2 repeaters. If I am outside in an area where the repeaters are strong, it works quite nicely. However, if the ground repeaters are not strong, then the unit is worthless. The headphones never give me more than 1 bar and cut out even though there is no obstruction. I get nothing driving in the car with those headphones. Also, the wifi doesn't get me all of the channels for SIRIUS INTERNET Radio (which I broke down and paid the extra money for). For instance, I don't get NFL Network. I was pleased that it connected easily to my home network.

The biggest issue I have is the storage (which is also why Sirius probably wants to buy back the S50). The Stiletto is only going to allow me to store 10 hrs and then I have to go out and buy the song or risk losing it. The S50 was didn't have this low of a restriction.

I am very close to returning the Stiletto until they fix some of the problems because I don't want to have to fork out for the Car kit as well. Sirius knew the antenna was bad and they should have included the car kit with the unit like they did with the S50.

Does anyone know whether we can adapt the current micro antenna to make a better headphone antenna? The Coax is the same size, but the connector appears smaller. With a better antenna, I would probably keep it, but this unit does me no good unless I go pay the additional cash for the car kit and then of course the new home kit.

Default Oh the Horror stories

I am in the same boat as you, My S50 died a while back, Circut city has offered to upgrade to the Stilletto. Before I did I came here to see how the unit is being recieved by the community. From what I have read it seems the stilletto is another failure for Sirius. Poor radio reception no car kit included with the unit, I wish Sirius would come out with a decent product.

Failure? How do you figure?

I see many more posts praising the Stiletto than trashing it. In fact, I see very few that have trashed it. Many have minor issues which is true of any new product.

If you're main need is a portable live unit the Stiletto may let you down (deppending where in the country you live.) To me it's all the other features that make the Stiletto a clear winner.

A rating of 8/10 on CNET is a pretty good trick for "another failure for Sirius."

Default Stiletto

I think the stiletto is a great product. I have had no reception problems with it. I have the arm band and get no dropouts when running or cycling with it. The storage capacity exceeds my needs. I use Napster to Go with this unit and it is great. Sorry you all don't share in this opinion. I too had an S50. I had all the problems and upgraded to the Stiletto. I am glad I did.

Get Real, the Stiletto is far from a failure.... There are many of us that never had failures with our S50's either. Why must folks speak in such general terms. Reception with car docks and home kits is not a problem whatsoever with the Stiletto. The only issues I've read about have been using it as a portable live device and the reception then becomes hit or miss. The same can be said of XM's Portables too, which I also own. We've got to get beyond reading a few negative post then saying... OH MY GOD SIRIUS HAS ANOTHER FAILURE!!!

I don't think you'll find anyone that had a S50 that now has a Stiletto that would agree with you and if you do it won't be many.

Let me just jump on this as well... the Stiletto is AWESOME!! I've loved it from the day I bought it. The Stiletto is 100X better than the S50 ever though about being.

Default I saw the Sitiletto in person for the first time today

I must say, it is alot smaller than the "brick" I was expecting. The thing is barely bigger than my cell phone. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to pick it up(it was in a home dock at Radioshack). I got to spin the wheel and play with the interface for a few minutes. I was very impressed with the smoothness of the wheel and the screen was awesome. The pictures online do it no justice.

Dose anyone know if the power cord that came with the car dock can be plugged into the stiletto. I bring it with me at work while I drive and listen to recorded programs and would like a way to recharge without buying another car dock.

Default Thank you for the positive responses

I really want to like the new S100, I was very happy with the concept of the S50. but in 6 months time I had to replace it 3 times, now unit #4 has died. I am going to return the unit and pick up the Stilletto today and prey that it will be able to work through my car stereo (I wish it came with a car kit). With the S50 I bought the Sirius brand AC adaptor does anyone know if the old S50 AC adaptor is compatible with the new Stilletto??

Thanks again for the positive comments

You ARE going to dig the Stiletto! Especially after you get over your S50 nervousness. The Stiletto is a very solid receiver. If you just lost another S50, it's time to step up!
