Mine goes to sleep in the car dock as well ( not in the home dock ) - more importantly it did not wake up for a recording in the car dock. I wonder why?

The car dock needs a constant power source in order to record (something like the home dock.) Most cars cigarette lighters are not powered once you cut off the car's ignition.

Just a point of clarification...the Stiletto doesn't need to wake up in order to record. It will record in the sleep mode sucessfully without any visual indication that it's recording.

Is the stiletto enough to drain a car battery if it were to turn on to record a 2-3 hour show? I have left my sportster replay on by accident several times (sometimes overnight) and it has never run out my car battery.

If you lose power to your car dock the Stiletto will go in to sleep mode in 15 seconds. It shows this on the screen nearly immediately when the power is cut.

Some tests with the S50 would indicate that a car battery in working order will last a couple days with the unit on. I would guess the Stiletto would probably be the same. In either case I would guess there is programming in the unit while it's in the car dock to shut down after a period of time. Not sure if it will record or not. Maybe someone else knows this.

Umm, I beg to differ. I'm using a car dock in my hotel room plugged into an AC apapter with power 24/7 and I am experiencing the same problem. Scheduled recordings don't commence if it sleeps before scheduled the start time. I don't have this problme sitting in the home dock when I'm home, and it has never gone to sleep at any time.

As for the unit recording while in sleep mode, it doesn't in the car dock as far as my experience has gone. The home dock may be a different story.

My experience is limited to the home car. I was just trying to clarify to points. Maybe the OP was expecting the Stiletto to wake up in order to record and the fact that it will not record on an unpowered dock.

After researching it the Stiletto will only record in an AC powered dock. The car dock is DC, no?

So if you are on a long trip your Stiletto would go to sleep in a few hours? That seems kind of odd. Maybe you have a defective car dock.

Thumbs down it's got power.

My car dock is in the house and connected to power 24/7. Mine goes to sleep and it's not cool.

One thing I noticed is that the Stiletto clearly knows which dock it is plugged into. I can set the brightness level while on the Soloist, which it will remember, yet I can have a totally different brightness level while portable or plugged into the home dock and it will remember them. If this is the case when it is plugged into the car dock it knows it is probably going to be on DC power and therefore will not wake up on scheduled recordings when in sleep mode.

It makes me also wonder if there is some sort of auto shut-off to make sure if you leave it on it on by accident while on DC that it would shut off to make sure it doesn't run your battery down. The thing about DC power is that when used in an auto the power tends to have a slight fluctuation when the auto is being operated. But once you park a vehicle turn off the ignition those fluctuations stop. Sounds a bit complicated, but at this point the clock starts for auto shut-down. This is just my theory and I have no way of knowing otherwise. I did take a 5 hour trip using my car dock this past weekend and it never shut down on me.

One thing I know for sure is the Stiletto knows which dock it is plugged into.

rsxracer are you using DC power or AC power on your car dock when in the house?

Post sleepy stiletto

I have an adapter from Radio Shack that plugs into the wall. I had to take electrical tape and really get it in there tight because it was not a perfect fit. It's not coming loose though so I know that's not the problem.

When I said a few hours I think it's more like 10 hours + when it goes asleep.

I'm using the Car dock with an original AC adapter plugged into the dock. If a scheduled recording is in progress, it never goes to sleep during that time (I have a six hour daily scheduled recording). My experience has been that it indeed goes to sleep mode after being on anywhere from 3-8 hours, with no logic in the time span that I can ascertain. If it goes to sleep, it won't record scheduled programs.

So, if I install my car kit in my truck, I won't be able to record shows if I leave my stiletto in the truck when I'm at work? I planned to record some shows while I'm at work and listen to them on my drive home.

Post Confusing sleep mode with display auto off???

ok so today I had my usual 6 hour recording of Stern show going and the unit had been on for just over 5 hours when I checked on it. The display was totally off so I imagined it was asleep. Well it wasn't. It was recording with the display totally off.

I hit a button and the display went on. The heart (which displays when the unit is recording) was not on. I figured that the unit had fallen asleep and therefore stopped recording. So I checked the Library (area where stored recorded segments are stored) and sure enough all of the segments were there in full. The unit was indeed recording even though the heart was not present. I think the display was just off and for some reason the heart was not there even though the unit was recording properly.

I'm not going to assume that the unit is asleep like I have been anymore because I think I mistaked that with the fact that the display had just turned off.

I wish we could have a concrete answer to when/why the display turns off and when/why the unit goes to sleep automatically when using the car dock?
