Cool New Stiletto - going back....

Well I thought I would give it a try. Very nice package, terrible performance. Even with the goofy headphones on the reception is lousy at best inside or out. I'm not much for sitting in an open field in order to get my Octane.

My s50 sitting in the Executive dock picks up a signal just about anywhere in my house, not the Stiletto. Cannot stand the headphones for more the 5 mins. Yes the WiFi works well, but it sounds like 2 tin cans on my ears. I could handle a few drops in signal, that's if I could hold a signal more than 30 seconds. Even if the unit sits still the signal is in and out. Oh well. Maybe next time. I guess my 4th S50 will hold me over for awhile.....

How are you getting satellite signal indoors with your Executive dock? If you've got an external antenna hooked up to it, it's not a fair comparison.

Just using the antenna that came with the dock. It is sitting right next to the dock in the middle of a room away from any windows. I can walk around with the Stiletto and goofy headset on and not get a signal anywhere in the house even close to my S50s home dock or executive dock.

The Stiletto you bought sounds like a dud.

In a perfect world your neighbor would have one and you could compare if they get reception.

Generally the built in antenna in the Stiletto will get reception where the Home Antennas that come with the units wouldn't. Based on that, I'd recommend swapping it out with another and giving another go, despite the frustration.

Thanks I'll try swaping it out at BB tomorrow. If I unplug the "goofy" headset the reception even outside goes to nothing. With the headset 1 or 2 bar and reception is still in and out. Definitely does not get the reception of my home or exec dock antennas.

When you get done swapping and testing it out, be sure to post your results. It's important that people know your results. Not that I doubt you will.

I wonder if its the TER signal you're getting, not the SAT signal...

Press HOME, go to SETTINGS, click DEVICE then ANTENNA AIMING and post results.

ya I only get 3 bars when docked only 1 bar outside with sat headset, nothing if I do not use sat headset. My pioneer inno gets 3 bars with sat headset. But I am still VERY happy with my stiletto. I have no TER signal just SAT at home but I do bring it with me into the city for work and get a good 3 bars there of TER signal.

Sat signal is about 1/4 to 1/2. Ter signal is barely visable. Still is cutting in and out.

My Stiletto is about the same. With the crappy headphones my signal is in and out about every 5-10secs. Basically worthless. Even in the car dock I rarely ever get beyond 2 bars. I drove around watching the signal and the sat signal NEVER goes higher than 35-40%. Was using the S50 antenna then swapped it out with the antenna that came with the Stiletto and no difference.

That's odd as it sounds like something has gone wrong. That dude that gets the signal from the S50 inside what does your ANTENNA STRENGTH say it's picking up? Compare it to the little signal the Stiletto is picking up.

If they are different, that may indicate there is a issue with that particular radio.

Wink

Just got back from BB with the new Stiletto.

I compared both side by side in the parking lot at a BB in St. Louis. Both had about the same signal strength on the bar. Went into device and looked at antenna strength. Both units were sitting still, the SAT signal was at 1/4 and TER was jumping between 1/4 and 1/2 with the Antenna Headset attached. Once it was unplugged signal began to fail off and on. AQUIRING SIGNAL but not on both at the exact same time. Anyhow I decided to return my first one and keep the 2nd. Drove back home about 30 miles outside St. Louis. (no repeaters around my home area.)

It does appear the 2nd one might have a slightly better reception. I'm able to walk through parts of my house with the "goofy" headset on and pick up on some signals. Although my S50 is still picking up a much better (never dropping) signal.

Outside the new unit definitely works better with the "goofy" headset attached. Barely anything with normal ear pieces. The SIDs are far apart on the two units. BB had about 2 dozen to choose from on the shelf.

One thing consistant is the "goofy" headset is still tough to unhook from the new Stiletto. I'm going to travel this week on business and see if it is just my area or if indeed this new toy doesn't pick up very well on its own. I'll probably hold onto it until I can get either a home or car dock. If performace is still lackluster.... back to BB. Nice interface or not, I need signal.
