Default $2.99 Online Upgrade

Will this provide better quality to the Stiletto via WiFi?

The WiFi option is very cool, but sounds like tin cans on my ears. If I pay the extra 2.99 per month will this improve the reception 32kbs to 49kbs on my Stiletto?

Not yet. Apparently they are working on it and should be here in "2 weeks".

BTW, if you know anything about this forum then you know 2 weeks is equal to "when they get around to it".

Not yet. Maybe SIRIUS is working on it, who knows. I'd say it's probably not likely due to buffering concerns.

Thanks, I just found this from a Google.

Q: If I upgrade to the CD Quality internet stream, will the Stiletto be able to pick it up & sound better when in WiFi?

A: No, this is an increasingly common misperception among the early Stiletto users. The WiFi stream supported by the Stiletto is the standard bit rate stream, access to the standard stream comes free with an active satellite subscription. The $2.99 extra is not needed nor supported by the Stiletto at this time. There are plans to support the Higher Quality stream in the future, but at this time Stiletto users get only the standard stream.

HAH! this thread is from last year.... And you said it would be soon. Now, I am hearing again that it should be soon . I am putting my faith in Sirius and I am now paying 2.99 extra for the high bit-rate stream. If they end up doing it for free, I will cancel this. I remember reading somewhere, the stiletto does not use your SID to activate WiFi, it just trusts that if you have Sattelite, you must have internet. how will it know if you are paying extra for the higher quality?

Not sure where you got that, but I am pretty sure your ESN is tied to your wifi subscription some how. It is my belief this will happen sooner rather than later, but I do think you will have to pay the $2.99 if you want it. So in order for that to happen there is certainly a way they can tell if your ESN is subscribed to the higher bitrate. I also see this as a tiny income stream for them too from those of us that use the Wifi on Stilettos.

I know when I subscribed online I had to click on my ESN, then it took me to a page to subscribe. In fact if you look at your account online it seems to me that the Internet Radio is indeed linked to the ESN.

When you first get your stiletto, before activation, if you go to WiFi, It says something like "Please listen to satellite radio to verify your subscription before listening to internet radio"

And yes, when I went in I did click my ESN to upgrade my internet radio.

Riddle me this Batman:

If over a year is "sooner" what in the hell is "later?"

Let's hope it is sooner; we could all be dead by "later."

Sirius almost has a guaranteed extra 3$ a month from me if they add this feature. I don't see the point otherwise since I largely just let a friend of mine use my SIR online account.

I use the WiFi feature a fair deal. It's by far one of my favorite features, if not my most favorite feature.

I use it probably about 4 to 5 hours a day on average. This has by far been one of the best features to date. I am excited about the 128kb streaming as this will improve the SQ significantly. I am curious to see how they have done this and if we have locations where they have low bandwidth if we'll be able to select low quality over high quality so that we don't get constant rebuffering.

I seriously doubt they would give it to Stiletto owners for free. WOuld be great though. Even with all the Wifi listening I do, I wont pay for it until I can record songs from Wifi.

That is correct, it won't happen. But why deny yourself the better quality sound when listening via Wifi? We are talking $2.99 and even if I only listened to Wifi a couple of hours a week it would be worth it for the improved sound quality, but of course I can only speak for myself.

Smile

It sure would be a nice "Thank You" from Sirius to allow Stiletto users who invested $$$$$ in this unit to listen to high quality stream with NO additional charges.

I know it won't happen, but i was just thinking maby I should have bought a lifetime plan and kept my Starmate.

I love this Stiletto !

(got it 1 day before the "clock update", How did you guys live without it !)
