Default Reset

I had to perform the reset procedure tonight.... it took awhile to install the software but my stiletto is working again minus my stored content. After the reset I was back with the latest software updates not the original Zap settings so I guess Sirius has updated the recovery software....

How it crashed: I had to be at a swim meet Today so I would be unable to watch the first half of the USC/UCLA game (I could start a whole new thread on that debacle) brought the Stiletto to listen to the game. Turned on the stiletto out of sleep mode & was unable to receive any type of sat. or terr. signal at all... both bars on the antenna aiming screen were at the min. and did not move. I was outdoors & near a repeater where I get a strong signal always. I decided to turn the stiletto off and power back on to re-boot. After doing that the Stiletto began to reboot & I ended up with a message saying I need to perform a factory reset with a pc and the usb cable this was different from the error message that is posted on the top of this thread by me_rubin. I removed the battery & tried again and then all I could get was the error message posted on the top of this thread... I just found this interesting because I never once held down the options & display button to get into recovery mode the stiletto did that on its own. On a side note, I had access to a pc but I don't carry the usb cable with me so I had to get scoring updates via my cell phone... This thing picked a bad time to crash but the recovery procedure went flawless & I am now hoping this will be a one-time occurence

Does this recovery procedure apply to the stiletto 10 as well? Or is it because of the WiFi option on the 100?

Default Is Recovery just a Temporary Fix? Tech support says "Don't Bother"

So yesterday my Stiletto wouldn’t come out of sleep mode. After listening to Christmas music all day in my office, I put the Stiletto to sleep, popped it out of its home dock, then went to my car and put it in the car dock like I do every day after work. It started to power up but instead of just coming out of sleep mode it started up like it was completely off (it does this about once a week I’ve noticed).

Except this time it didn’t finish the boot up. It got to the fifth circle and just sat there the entire drive home (20 minutes). I’ve had occasional problems with the Stiletto turning on correctly in the car dock, so when I got home I took it out, popped off the battery, let it sit for a minute, and then put the battery back on and let it try and boot up. Same thing, stuck after the fifth circle lights up. Tried a couple of more times then gave up.

I’d read this thread about the recovery process but before trying it I decided to call tech support and see what they had to say. I was very surprised that after describing the problem the support rep simply said, “your radio’s dead, here’s the number for warranty service”.

I said, “Really? Isn’t there some sort of reset process I can try?” The reply was, “Don’t bother, just get them to send you a new one.”

So I called the warranty number, registered my device with the person on the phone, and they’re sending me a new unit which I should get in about a week (they took my credit card number and if I don’t return my defective one they’ll charge me the $349).

Like I said, I’ve had some occasional glitches with this unit (not just the car dock problem, but sometimes the Stiletto is very slow to respond to inputs, the remote, etc.), so I don’t mind getting a new replacement. But since I have a week or more to wait (I’m guessing two with the holidays), I decided to try the reset process. It didn’t work the first time, told me it couldn’t recover my device and to call support, but I tried it again and was successful. Sort of a bitch that you can’t actually “sync” the Stiletto to your PC so it saves your favorites, recordings, and presets (I’m not saying it should let you use them on your PC, but it would be a nice recovery process if a unit crashes – really sucks to lose the songs I’ve recorded). Working fine now, so hopefully it will last the next two weeks until the new unit comes.

I really like my Stiletto but now beginning to wonder if I’ve invested way too much money in this (Stiletto 100, two car kits, two home kits, and a boom box, and the fact the SL100 is “stupid” when it comes to duplicate song recordings, won’t try to reconnect to a network it “knows” if SSID broadcasting isn’t turned on, etc.). I’m especially troubled that tech support didn’t even discuss the “recovery” option – to me that means they know they have defective hardware out there and the recovery process is only a temporary fix (something to note for anyone who’s already done it at least once – I’d be interested to hear if anyone’s had to do it multiple times yet. If you have, time to start thinking about a replacement unit).

We’ll see how the new unit performs; if its trouble-free I’m sure my enthusiasm will pick up again (Buzzsaw, Hair Nation, Hard Attack, the NFL and every Chelsea game are good reasons to love it!).

Have you gone online or contacted SIRIUS about sending a reactivation? You lose your channels when your tuner isn't activated, but maybe someone it lost the activation? You are current on your account I assume? LOL

Try that and report back!

Send me your ESN via PM and I'll forward this issue up for you. I will be out most of the day for the next 3 days because I am at a convention, but I'll check back in tomorrow night and get the ball rolling.

I figured I'd give the recovery a try. To see if I can get the wifi feature working again. The first picture in the sticky...Recovering Please wait...screen has been stuck on that screen for twenty minutes or so. Is this normal? Or should it have progressed to something else by now. I disconnected from computer once to check, and removed battery. It then went right back to this same screen. Any ideas please?

It's still stuck on that Recovering..Please wait....screen. I'll wait longer. Does this possibly mean the unit is having trouble doing a recovery? I'll check back later.
Edit- Looks like I got it going now.

The recovery worked out for me. My wifi has not been working at all for a while. Now I was ready to do a recovery. I had to reinstall MSS. In order for it to find the updated software for device. My wifi does work now. Just need to verify the wifi channels are up to date. Anyone...Do I need to let it hang in wifi for a while for a wifi channel update? It is still showing Standard Time. Not showing the latest sat channels update. Is that correct, or do I need to update wifi ?

When you say it is still showing Standard time, you do mean the channel logo for Standard time still shows up when you put it on channel 75? When you are in Sat Mode does this happen? If you got the recent sat channel update, then your Wifi should reflect the name change. However the programming is still Standard Time as it has not been changed and won't be until April.

The recent wifi channel update was to give us Lithum 24 which shows up as 90's Alternative, The Catholic Channel and EWTN in a Religion Category. If you have all those then your wifi channels are up to date.

My channels in sat mode are up to date. It appears the wifi channels are not up to date. No channel 24, and no religion. To update wifi should I leave it on in that mode for awhile?

Yes and some have found by leaving it on and then shutting down and going back into Wifi mode for a while the channels update. It just takes a bit of time.
