1. Un-install My Sirius Studio and the Recovery Program
2. Reboot PC
3. Install My Sirius Studio from the cd that came with your Stiletto. I know its old but trust me.
4. Plug your Stiletto into the USB port and the recovery program should install the new firmware update, and start your Stiletto.
5. Now Install the updated 1.5 My Sirius Studio.
6. This got me to a usable Stiletto but still no update. Back where I started but better than a brick. I will call Zing back to find out how to get to the newest firware and report back here.

Shame on the Tech Support people at Sirius. I am just some poor schlub sitting at home and I found out what to do with this. Zing said they would take care of the Sirius end and let them know about this. Sirius if you are listening you owe me a Stiletto 2!

Hey all,

I just tried this procedure and maybe i'm being a little dense today but I can't get my Stiletto 2 out of the "Recovering Please wait..." screen. It won't even connect to MSS. Any suggestions?

You did install the recovery program on your PC didin't you? Sounds like the pc does not see the stiletto on the USB port. Or the other issue is it coul not download the stiletto image from the Sirius server. Make sure your pc is connected to the internet.

How long did you leave it? It does take a LOOONNNG time.

After you install the device recovery program you should see some activity. I did the same thing as you with waiting and waiting. Finally I decide to do more reading and discover there is another program that needs to be installed. This program should really be installed with everything else. Makes no sense to me.

So I grabbed my Bose Quiet comforts, my SL100 and head outside to mow the lawn. I cycle through the menu and pick one of the shows I had pre-recorded to listen to. The show starts up and then after about 3 minutes it get’s “stuck” to the point that it sounds like a stuck/skipping CD. Then, I get it… my first ever Dogstar of death!
(Photo borrowed from me_rubin’s post)

So, I put the radio and cord in the garage and suffer through mowing the lawn. Then I come in and decide to fix the thing. I place it in my home dock, which is connected to my computer. It attempts to run the recover program, but no joy in my life, I get this:

Note that MSS is open and connected to the Internet. I clicked close on the first box that tells me to call Sirius and I get this one, with the following information copied in:

See the end of this message for details on invoking

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

So I swallow my pride and call Sirius Tech support (I work in the IT field, I hate calling tech support for anything!) and I told them what happened. Got a “The recovery program didn’t work?!?!?, your unit is dead.” Of course it’s over a year old so no more warranty. Asked some questions about the SL2 since I might be looking to buy a new unit now and the guy seemed fairly clueless on those questions as well (did I mention I hate calling tech support?)…
Cruised through the Sirius Backstage forums and read through the Stiletto recovery link. Saw this link, downloaded and tried it (previously tried the one that installs via the full MSS both version 1.5.0.49321 and 1.6.0.58972). Neither of the previous version of MSS would give me anything other than the errors mentioned above.

Downloaded, installed and ran it. Oh, there looks like there might be joy here as I get this screen when I rerun the recovery program:

After 15 minutes or this appears:

Then this:

The unit rebooted just as the guide said it would. I had no channels initially, just like the guide said it would, but after about 15 minutes or so I had channels once again. I double checked and it did have the latest version of software on it as well. All-in-all I have to thank Sirius Backstage and the folk here or I would have been completely dead in the water on this issue, so thank you Sirius Backstage community!

^ Thanks for that update Steve. I had exactly the same problem so your information & instructions were valuable to me.
