Default Traveling with my Stiletto.

Okay, back home in St. Louis reception is spotting. I tried it at the STL airport Tuesday morning, nothing.

Landed in Salt Lake City reception is perfect with standard ear buds. 2-3 bars. I had it on all night in my hotel room (downtown Salt Lake) perfect. Today I'm working about 15 miles South of Downtown. Again reception is great. Mostly picking up from TER signal, I believe there is a repeater in town.

I also live in St Louis, but have no reception problems with my Stiletto. I work Downtown, and get 3 bars reception in my office. I can walk around, to the bathroom, anywhere and still get Sat reception with no dropouts. Only dropout is in the elevator when the door closes. There is a Repeater downtown here, near Americas Center.
In my car, I have my Sat antenna on the dashboard, inside the car and only get dropouts if under a big overpass, when outside of Downtown St Louis by maybe 6-7 miles.
I live in St Charles, MO and actually get Sat Reception when in my room on the second floor of the house. There is a window facing south, and as long as I have the Stiletto near this window, i get reception. I can lay in bed and pick up a Sat signal with 1 bar, sometimes 2, without using the headphone antenna. I am very happy with my stiletto and Sat signal here in St Louis.

FYI...This is for all the Sirius people looking or having the same issues as me in the St. Louis area with singals...

I also live/work in St. Louis city and just got my Stiletto at the Best Buy yesterday on Watson. I love it when it get reception! I also have a Sportster that I have in my car/home/work. I've had Sirius close to 1 year and can't live without it. I didn't even know a local radio station had changed formats over the summer that I use to listen to since I don't listen to local radio anymore.

Here is my assesment on reception in St. Louis with my Sportster and Stiletto, since I think St. Louis is a large city with Sirius coverage issues.

Home : live in south city (south of Hampton Village), and I can't get a signal when on my first floor with my home Sportster or my Stiletto. On my 2nd floor I get 1 bar with my Stiletto and no signal with the home antenna with my Sportster. Both singals are coming from the base downtown antenna with no satellite signal. This could be the large oak trees in my front yard...

Work : work 1 mile south of the heart of downtown on Broadway. My cube faces south and the building sits in a hole, but with the base home antenna sitting on my cube wall facing south, I get full signal with the downtown antenna with my Sportster. I've been on vacation this week and have yet to use my Stiletto at work. Sometimes (about 1 a week) I get a drop out of about 1 min

Car : I have a SUV with the antenna on the roof at the back of my car. I do get drop outs when going under overpasses, but I think that is normal. When I get close to the city, I do get a couple of bars on the downtown antenna, but only when I get about 1 mile from downtown. All other times I'm getting a singal from the satellite.

Stiletto : I can't believe how small the unit actually is. I got it registered on the web, and thought it was 10 dollars to activate a new unit, but now it's 15.00 on the web. Within mins, I was up and running. I took a walk around the neighborhood and didn't get any signal with the regular ear buds. I then took out the bulky, hurt my ear antenna headphones and got 1 bar, maybe 2 when walking around. The antenna headphones hurt my ear so much after 2 blocks I had to take them off, so now that's why I'm on the forum trying to find another solution, but stumbled upon this topic and decided to chime in.

Inside my house I have wi-fi and hooked this up with my Stiletto. It started streaming and sounded ok. You can tell it's low quality and sounds very digital, but you get that when streaming with you computer also. The quality between PC and Stiletto was the same. I was surprised that you needed to activate the satellite radio portion before you could stream on the web. Also when connecting to the web, I was surprised that I didn't need to enter my username and password for sirius.com.

I think the Stiletto had tons of potential. One thing I would do in a firmware updated would be put a battery meter (probably already addressed on the forum) when the unit is off and charging so I know when to stop charging. I think when I travel, the Stiletto will be a time killer in airports and other places where you have a lot of downtime. I was going to purchase a 2GB Nano soon, and figured why get a 2GB Nano for $200 when I could get another Sirius portable for another 150.00 more and only 17 bucks for 3 months of service.

If I could only find another solution to the antenna headphones I think this would be a kick ass unit.
