The conclusion from what I gather was determined that this was a bug and hopefully it will be addressed in upcoming updates.

You should not have to totally power off your tuner (reset) when removed from a dock to make sure that the sat radio chipset turns off. So, you dock the tuner, listen to live sat. Hit the power button it goes to sleep. Now you have it in your hand using it as a portable. You power the tuner back on, it immediate tries to go to Sat because of course that is the last function you were using. However, you now switch to Internet Radio (Wifi) the tuner does this with no problem, however (HERE IS THE ISSUE) when switching to Internet Radio, the Sat Chipset never turns off. So now you've got the Sat Chipset draining the battery, along with the Wifi. The only thing that it actually does turn off, is the antenna. So, if all you are doing is looking to see if the antenna is turned off, it will be, but the problem isn't the antenna, the problem is the sat chip itself staying on and drawing power. I can replicate this over and over and over as where the folks I worked with on this. So, I hate to burst your bubble but from my perspective and theirs this isn't a feature, but clearly a bug that I have encouraged them to address in a future update.

You can choose to avoid listening to Internet Radio, but that is one of the main reasons I got my Stiletto and I have no intention of avoiding updates. I want this issue fixed, because there has been several times my battery has been drained as if I was listening live, when I was in fact only listen to wifi. By the way in none of my test did I have a scheduled recording, so there would have been NO reason for the Sat Chip to stay on. But you can't just look to see if the antenna is on as a means of determining if the sat chip is staying on, which is apparently what you are doing.

I guess it all depends on how they go about fixing this issue. All I know is that in my mind if I am in any mode other than Sat Mode and I don't have recording scheduled... the Sat chipset should not be on PERIOD!!! Now if they can fix this bug and it still allow the sat chip to come on and record something you have scheduled while we are listening to wifi or radio replays... I'd have no problem with that, but the key is scheduled recording. I am not sure they will be able to pull it off, so we'll have to wait and see. For me, I am not worried about being able to use this device like a DVR. I just want to be able to switch modes and not have my battery drained as if I am listening 'LIVE" when I am not.
Yes I have been testing by the antenna aiming. It is the only way I have to tell if it is on. I have removed it from my dock and listened to recorded media with a battery drain that is pretty close to what is listed in the specs.

If I'm reading this right it looks like the real problem is that when going to Wifi the sat chip is still on and the battery is drained very fast I would assume because of wifi and Sat both being active. Is that correct?

Fortunately I have not run into this yet. When I use the wifi I'm usually connected with external power so I have not noticed a faster drain.

This is all to bad because with the current setup I am able to record the Stern program from 7-12 this morning and at the same time I'm listening to the show that I recorded yesterday. This is very nice and something I will miss if it is removed but we can't have the battery being drained any faster than it already does! I'm sure I will run into a situation where I will want to listen via Wifi (like at an airport) and if my battery is drained while waiting for a flight I will not be happy.

Thanks for your explanation and let me know if I understand it correctly.

Have you contacted support? If you've taken the battery out, done an erase and reset and it still doesn't update, I would consider the Stiletto Recovery Procedure and that should update you for sure. You will of course lose anything you now have saved and you'll need to add any MP3 or WMA's back to the device.

Let us know how it goes. There is a sticky on the recovery procedure in the Stiletto forum.

Sorry I missed your post. Yes, this is correct. Hopefully this will indeed be addressed in the future. I don't think its a wide spread issue, but clearly some of us are experiencing this.

Well, it's updated now. I pulled the battery and then used via the satellite and next time I check it was updated.

Sounds like it had updated, but you simple didn't do a hard shut down and restart. It in fact tells you that when you do the update. Wifi updates are done in the background with a simple message that says you must restart for the update to complete. Usually via MSS it is pretty clear what you need to do.

Glad you are finally updated!

I purchased my Stiletto today and within 30 seconds of connecting via WiFi, it started to download the updates! Thanks to all of the posts here, my update was easy! Thanks to everyone for sharing your update experiences!

I did notice one difference, however. When I compare my "Service info" screen to that of ErickSchmerick (page 1 of the thread), I have a different pack name and different PRI and SEC server IP addresses. I'm not surprised by the different IP addresses, as I'm sure Zing doesn't want all of our Stilettos hitting one server! The different Pack names, however, did come as a surprise.

As an aside, my info is:

Pack name: SC01-P021 (I believe Erick's was SC01-P022)
Pri Server: 216.243.79.78
Sec Server: 216.243.79.75

Any ideas why there would be a difference?

I have a theory...perhaps there are a number of variations of each update; the only difference between them would be the IP addresses that they point your Stiletto to. If they distribute these packs randomly, then they will have randomly distributed Stiletto users across their servers.

Thoughts?

I am stuck at 16487r. I downloaded the latest MSS from Sirius... and even then it says that there are no updates for my unit. I noticed one thing.. the version of MSS that I download is 1.1.0.16487.. which would indicate to me that I am not downloading the latest version of MSS.. so it can't update the unit. (I'm assuming that since the last 4 digits of the version of MSS is 16487 which is close to my version of Zap at 16487r that they are related?)

Anybody know how I can get the latest version of MSS?

Sirius Tech Support told me to uninstall MSS and reinstall it.. that's when I noticed the version I am downloading appears to be an older version.

Thanks,

Charles

You can download it... The latest version is 1.1, available from here...

Make sure you don't download the S50 version.... I know a few that have done that.

That version is: http://download.sirius.speedera.net/....1.0.16487.zip

Notice the 16487 at the end. Is that the version you are running and were able to update your unit with? That's the same number as my old ZAP 16487r. So I can still not update my unit.. it says there are not any updates.

Thanks though!

Charles that is the same version that I have. I have never updated via the MSS though, I've always done it via Wifi. I understand that isn't work for you either. I would ask my contact for some help for you. Can't promise you a quick response though with this being a holiday weekend. But let me see what I can do.

There is one thing I would try, but if you do you'll lose anything you have recorded. But if I were you I'd try the Recovery Procedure as that should totally erase and reinstall the latest ZAP on your Stiletto. The procedure is here if you wish to try it. http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...ad.php?t=90429

DAB.. did the restore procedure... and it installed the same version of ZAP I had before. Did the check for update thing on the MSS and it said there are no updates.

Now I am connecting to WiFi again.. will let you know if it updates now.

Thanks again for your help.

That is very strange... because the Recovery Proceedure uses the new ZAP, not the older one when it rebuilds your Stiletto. Are you sure you following the procedure exactly? Because it doesn't sound like your Stiletto was actaully rebuilt. If this keeps happening, I would consider a swap or exchange.

Dreiland earlier in this thread was also stuck at ZAP 1.0.0.16487r even after trying to update with MSS... it said there were no new updates. I also read a thread somewhere else that the restore procedure does NOT update you.. that would make sense because the version of the MSS software is 1.1.0.16487 the 16487 indicating to me that the Stiletto software it holds is ZAP 1.0.0.16487r.

Dreiland was eventually lucky, as most of you have been.. where your WiFi will update you. I wonder how many people actually updated via MSS on this board. I even took my unit over to a friend's house last night to try her WiFi.. but it didn't update there either.

I took the battery out and held down those 2 keys when powering on... and it went through the whole restore procedure.. so I'm pretty sure I did the restore procedure correctly.
