Default Radio Replays

Can someone tell me what prompts the Radio Replay to work? I have it turned "on". Sometimes it works and other times it does not. I thought is was supposed to start after being 15 minutes on a music station....

Another question...If I have a Radio Replay recorded already..what happens if I put the same station on at another time? Does it overwrite..or not record?

Thanks..

bump....

I have the same question.

I think I figured out the 15 minute thing...

it has to be over 15 minutes of full songs, so typically you will have to listen to it for more than 15 minutes...

as far as the overwriting thing, I would love to know too because it seems like my device does not overwrite or add on (append) to the current recording.

can somebody please clarify or correct me? thanks!

Cool

now im not sure about this but here are my thoughts...

first off replays suck if you want to keep loved songs. sometimes loved songs get deleted in favor of replays, you can fix that by turning off the replays.

i too think that they start to record after you leave the radio on a station for about 15 mins. the replays will use up whatever space you have left on your unit. if all the memory is used on replays and you try to get one on another channel the radio will delete one of the older replays, or at least some of it, in favor of the new replays.

Replays of the same station queue up behind each other. So you may see a 2 hour replay ... delete it, and see another 3 hour one then shown (at least thats how mine did it when I had them on).

There have been some issues reported that are suppose to be fixed in the next ZAP/OS update. Basically some have reported that if they have the Radio Replays enabled that it may remove individual songs recorded (LOVE) or even remove recorded content that had been recorded by schedule. The strange thing is that this bug does not seem to impact everyone as I have never had it on my SL2.

The way that Replays work is that you must listen for at least 15 minutes and until a full song plays, because it will not save partially recorded songs. If you listen for 2 hours of a channel then Replay for that channel will be stored in a 2 hour chunk. If at some point you have a scheduled recording setup that needs more space, it won't just delete the space it needs, it will delete Replays in the number of chunks it may need. So say you have 3- 2 hour chunks of a channel and scheduled recording needs 3 hours. It will delete 2 of your 2 hour chunks of music. It deletes them in as the chunks they are recorded in.

Again there are several that have reported issues with all this and have made a decision to turn off the Replays.

If you are going to keep replays on, I think the key is to make sure none are greater than 2 hours in length. Deliberatly change the channel before 2 hours. The bigger the block of the replay, the greater the chance of an improper deletion.

You maybe right, but I have some replays as big as 4 and 6 hours. I still have had no problem with my recorded music or recorded songs vanishing. I try to remember to keep them smaller, but sometimes I get busy and forget so those get bigger.

I had several replays over 6 hours (like you I would leave the room with the SL2 still on and forget about it) when my stuff started disappearing. I think you can have them as long as you want but if it can't delete the replay for whatever reason, and it needs memory, then it finds it among loved songs or recordings. The larger the replay, the greater the chance that the SL2 will fail to delete it and choose something else.

The only problem with what you are saying is that my experience simply doesn't match yours. I understand that several others have experience what you do, but I have not. I've never had music removed without my permission to remove it through settings. I do several some large 6 hour and 3 hour recordings weekly and my replays are deleted as needed. I do see them go up and down in size accordingly.

So again this issue does not impact every SL2 owner! But if you are experiencing it then your suggestions are good ones. However, if it were me, I'd probably just turn them off until the next ZAP/OS comes out.

DAB, I believe you have a sticky about shutting down the SL2. Maybe loved songs and scheduled recordings disappearing because people do not do a full shutdown of the SL2 often enough?

My question was if I listen to channel 1 for 30 minutes today, then tomorrow listen to channel 1 tomorrow, what happens?

With my SL2, (I'm pretty sure it has all of its updates) the radio replays will remain from the first replay recorded. I was hoping it would just add on, so instead of showing 30 minutes it would show an hour using combined replays.

What would be ideal is if the device would do as I stated. If it could combine all the same stations' replays in one file and then as space is needed for scheduled recordings or loved songs or updates or whatever, it would just remove the oldest replays in 15 minute chucks.

Anybody know of a good source of current firmware information? Like what is to be expected in the next release, and when are the releases scheduled?
