Default Home Dock antenna

Ok, the antenna that comes with the home dock is complete garbage. My reception with it is no different than if I stuck my stiletto out the window as I only get 1 bar. Can you use any antenna with the home dock? If so, which one would be best? I was looking at the dish mount antenna as a possibility. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That's not my experience. Without the home dock antenna, my signal was very bad. With the home dock antenna I always get 2 or 3 bars
consistently

Are you sure it is aimed correctly? The angle might be the issue? Maybe it is defective?

I live in the northeast (CT) and according to a map I saw, the antenna must be aimed to the west/northwest. That is exactly what I did and only got 1 bar. I'll have to play with it a bit more.

You may want to check and see if your antenna is faulty. I can't remember a single SBS member having issues with this antenna (unless it was faulty.) Mine locks in the reception at bars steady bars and never suffers any drop outs.

A few members have had problems. here is a post about a defective coax connector on the home dock causing antenna problem. Maybe there are a few others too.

I'm getting a steady 1 bar now, no drop-outs for a while now, but I feel I should be getting better reception than this...I'm debating about exchanging it out at CC.

I say, get a long extension cord. plug in the dock outside with the antenna aiming screen on you should be able to get 3/4 full signal and 2 or 3 bars. If you cannot take it back it is defective.

Take a look at http://www.dogstarradio.com/sirius_map.php for the current satelites. Aim the way they are pointing.

I say one bar is unacceptable. Don't settle for this.

I agree with the others, something must be wrong. The antenna that came with the home dock is constantly showing three bars for me.

I have a dot-micro hooked up now (2-3 bars always) and with the home dock antenna, I got one bar with dropouts, then 10 minutes later I got two to three bars, and then back to one bar with dropouts 2 minutes later, and it stays in that loop.

Thanks for your help guys....I'm going to give it a few more days and monitor the behavior of the dock since I just hooked it up late Sat. night....most likely I'll go back to CC and exchange it out

Thanks again.

I am in Mass and I have my home antenna laying flat, pointed straight up and I get 2 to 3 bars consistently. I do not ever have any drop outs.

Have you actually tried to move the antenna to a different location?
I am in MA and get 2 or 3 bars all the time.
The chances of getting two defective docks is pretty low.. you might want to take some credit for not getting a good signal. and take a look at what you are aiming towards.. are there trees in the way or large buildings.
