Default MM's Car Install Pics

I know many have posted their pics already, but I wanted to show mine off as well.

I want to say "Thanks" again to me_rubin for the ProClip mounts. I am very happy that I got one.

Here is the set up.

Yes my HU says "Stiletto."

This is a side view. I couldn't clip the mount because of my HU. The face will not close if I clip it in. I might file some of my dash so it will fit. It still is pretty solid. I just have to hold the car dock at the bottom when I remove the Stiletto.

Here is the right side view. I ran all the wires through the vent. When looking straight on, you cannot see any wires.

One more front view.

I am very happy with the car dock. I have stopped using the Sir-JVC1 at this point. The SQ through my AUX input is just as good IMO. I also have had 0 drop outs on my commute now.

You might be asking where's the Explorer? I guess when you have a 120 mile a day commute you have to improvise.

Well I think I am now convinced to go ahead and order a ProClip. I like this setup so much better than the Panavise or Pro-Fit, which attemps to mount the thing beside your head unit and usually in a terrible location. Though I guess that depends on the make and model of your vehicle. I had a Panavise mount, but I hated it. The Pro Clip for my truck actually will allow me to mount in between my vents where it is easy viewable.

Thanks MM for the pics and info.

You're Welcome!

I love the way you programmed the head unit to say Stiletto! Nice...

As far as the head unit getting in the way, You might look into getting a piece of plastic about the same thickness as the mount. This way you could extend the base giving you more room away from the head unit. Even a straight piece of metal bracket could wedge in under the vent. If you find a piece of plastic, you could file a groove the same direction as the one that is supposed to go under the mount to extend the base and clip into the base of the vent. In either case you could drill a couple of holes into the base of the proclip bracket and the extension piece.

I'm assuming you put the little plastic bracket in between the Car Dock and the Bracket to give you more room. That's the only reason I could see you need it.

You did a fine job! It did work out for me. In reading your post you said you did not have to drill any holes? My amps mount hole pattern was 90 degrees the wrong way and I had to drill holes. Anyway it looks good.

For those that did not see my install here is the link.

You set up looks nice. HOt that the HU says stiletto.

This setup wouldn't work that well for me because I hate having my vents blocked. I used to have a vent mounted Cell Phone holder for when I drive but it pissed me off because it blocked all the air conditioning from coming out of the vent.

Nice install though.

Default Vent mount

Hi there,

Thank you for the pictures. And this is a great forum.

I just ordered the Stiletto - it should arrive this week. This is going to be my first satellite radio.

I'm from Canada so the system comes with a car mount kit. I was planning on using the vent mount as I believe it is included in the kit.

I think I've browsed this forum pretty thoroughly but have not seen many postings about using the vent mount by anyone. Is it because they don't work well? Why use the custom mounts such as pro-clip?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark, welcome to SBS,

Yes, I have used the vent mount at one time in both my truck and company van. However, what I always found was that the vent mounts tends to allow a lot of vibration, along with it being hard to remove the Stiletto, because it fits so tightly. So, for me I just found the vent mount to be a hassle. Right now I am using the adheasive mount in my truck, but I am ordering one of these custom Pro Clips because of where it will allow me to mount my Stiletto, which will be a much better location than now. I may just be too picky, so the vent clip may work just fine for you.

Thanks DAB for the welcome and quick response.

It's good to know that there are many mounting options.

I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on the radio!

DAB,

Now that I've tried the vent mount, I'm with you. I tried so many times to get it to hook up properly to the vent in my Volvo S60. Just when I thought it was secure - the whole craddle popped out while I was driving - with my Stiletto in it!

I've just ordered the ProClip.

Mark.
