Question Airport wifi

Sorry if this was asked, brought up before...

Just curious if anyone has been successful in getting their stiletto to work in an airport using the wifi feature. I clicked on internet radio in both Boston and Atlanta and both times it connected to the network, but didn't stream squat.

Just curious if perhaps airports have something blocked that the stiletto needs (ports, etc.)?

I've used mine at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood Int'l. Airport in Florida, which has an open wireless network. Some airport networks may require users to access a specific webpage first before they're granted access to the network. In such cases, the Stiletto's wi-fi feature won't work.

Don't know about airports, but I had a roaring success in Circuit City on one of their unsecured networks the other day!

Cool

A number of Public WiFi spots require you to view a disclosure page and agree to the EULA before allowing you surf the web. Even if they are offering the service for free. So, that may prevent you from connecting.

I wonder if you have a laptop and set your adapter to clone your Stiletto's MAC address, and use it to sign into the HotSpot, if that would allow you to overcome that limitation.

FLL and ROA have open WiFi. CLN does not.

We should get a list going somewhere.

Long Beach Airport (while I didn't have the Stiletto yet) had public WiFi streaming and you didn't have to pass through any pages to get to it. One guy was using his MP3 player with WiFi (I forgot what it was, I guess it was Creative) to stream his own shoutcast server and listen to it.

Atlanta charges $4.95 to surf the net. Just came through there yesterday.

DAB (Daytona Beach) has free Wifi, which I used Monday morning to stream with the Stiletto.

While I was in ATL I used my notebook to listen, via the TMobile service, using a monthly plan. TMobile has a sign in screen and doesn't work on the Stiletto.

I'll check at IAH on Saturday on my way home.

OK, let me try to explain...

There are programs which can get the network adapter to transmit a different MAC address than the one it is actually assigned (referred to as cloning). The MAC address is unique, like a serial number for each network component. It is used by some networks to identify which units have been approved to connect.

So, if you can get your laptop computer to transmit your Stiletto's MAC address and then use it to sign onto the network. If the network is using the MAC address for verification, you should be able to turn off your laptop and then turn on your Stiletto and connect. At least, that's my theory.
