Default WIFI Connectivity Issues using Range Expander

I have no trouble connecting my Stiletto to WIFI when I am near the router (Linksys Wireless N). However I have to use a Linksys range expander to get a WIFI signal in portions of my home. My PCs connect with no problem. However, the Stiletto will not connect when I am in range of the expander. It sees the network and trys to connect but fails. The expander is in mixed mode (B&G). Any thoughts on why it won't connect? Thanks!

Check the WiFi section of the Stiletto's manual.

Hi SRT, does the Stiletto connect to the Linksys Wireless N router when you don't use the expander? I am assuming the N Router is backwards compatible with b and g? The Stiletto uses b.

Read the first sentence of his post.

Again, check the notes in the Stiletto's manual. The early PDF version I have states it's not compatible with range extenders.

Well By George, I sure missed that.... You know folks don't read the manual, so why didn't you just say it won't work as it says in the manual, this would have been resolved 3 post ago. LOL

I do remember this in the manual, but forgot because I had thought about getting a range extender. Fortunately the higher gain antennas did the trick for me.

From the manual:

Note: The Stiletto does not support a connection through networks which require a user name or account number to be entered, though such networks may appear to be open. Networks in which multiple access points utilize the same SSID (repeater or roaming mode) are also not supported. If the network SSID is hidden, the SSID must be un-hidden (broadcasting) in order for the Stiletto to detect and connect to the network.

The manual can be found online here: http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Man...7/607SL100.PDF

I wonder why my stiletto works then, I use a DLink repeater, which uses the same SSID as my router, I guess the manual isn't 100% correct...shocker.

Instead of a range extender, I utilize several access points in the house. Each one will present a different SSID but usually the stiletto just connects to whichever is the strongest.

The stiletto connects to it just fine. I use a linksys model WAP54G. Each one just plugs into a hard wired network jack which goes back to a switch which goes to my router.

Just a suggestion.

Mike, you have no issues with this? I have the same router as you, the WRT54G. I plan on adding my WAP11 access point to the router and placing it at the other side of my basement to get better WIFI. Will it help?

Thanks for the responses guys, bit I am not sure that's the answer. There is a difference in using a range expander (as I am doing) which is commonly used and "multiple access points (that) utilize the same SSID (repeater or roaming mode)" which is not supported. That is rarely done now anyway now that range expanders are available. Would it be worth calling Sirius support or is that waste of time on these type of issues? Thanks,

You can call, but I honestly think you'll be wasting your time.

Actually now I don't have that router. I have an old BEFSR41 which I got before there was anything like 802.11b.

The WRT54G router is at VA Tech with my daughter in her dorm room.

I have two access points connected to my BEFSR41. An old WAP11 which is an old 802.11b one and the WAP54G which is my new one.

Putting another Access point can only help in those trouble places. But each one is a separate network access point which you need to connect to individually. In my case, I use the same WEP passwords, and the SSID's have a number indicating the floor they are on. IE RUBIN1 and RUBIN2 etc.

I'm actually thinking of getting a new router with dual WAN support. But I have not found one I like yet. I want to connect both my DSL and CABLE so I can have a redundent access in the house. Lately my DSL has been down a few times.
