Default New, wi-fi question

I have no idea how wireless internet works, but I just got my Stiletto 2 days ago and have only picked up 2 networks (both password protected). I travelled 50 miles yesterday and did not pick up a single signal. My cell-phone can connect anywhere I go, shouldn't that mean the stiletto can? Anything I need to do?

I would not say this is a Wifi Issue or New. You can't log in to secured networks that you don't have the right to access. The Stiletto works fine on open networks or networks that you have access to the password to log in.

Not all networks are configured to work with the Stiletto either. If you look in the manual it has some set standards that must be used via the wireless router and/or wireless access point.

You can't compare Wifi to a cell phone. I am going to change the title of your post to New, Wifi Question. Because your title is sort of misleading.

My suggestion would be that you probably need to get a car kit, so that you can use the Satellites to get reception. Do not depend on wifi only. The wifi is really only to supplement the sat reception in areas where you don't have sat reception, but do have access to wifi. If you want to test it out, you could try a public library a lot of time they have open wifi.

Now, DAB, don't be mean.

dyehard, if you google "what is WiFi", you'll get a lot of answers to your question. WiFi means wireless fidelity, which connects your stiletto to the internet wirelessly. (Here's a good website explaining how)

Who is being mean real, since when is providing someone direct info being mean? This person said they did not understand how it works, so the explaination is that you can't connect to wifi networks you don't have a right too. Is this wrong or right?

I quote him as saying he doesn't know how wireless networks work, so you skipped ahead and told him that he can't connect to any protected and complaining about his title of post.

Exactly and one of the first thing one needs to know is that is if the Stiletto finds a network that is protected, you can't connect to it if you don't have the password or right to access it. This seemed to be what happened on at least 2 occasionals as reported in the OP. But I am still trying to figure out how I was being mean?
