Default How do you record a single selection in a program?

I listen to the MET opera station almost exclusively. I usually use my time recording (with home dock) so that I can capture the entire opera, sometimes three hours long. I learned early on that if I hit "love" it will record only a single act of the opera because as soon as the screen changes from lets say Act 1 to Act 2 or Act 2 to Act 3 it shuts off. With "love", I have to be there at the start of each act in order to record the entire opera. This problem is of course eliminated by using the home dock and timer. The Stiletto is song oriented and I guess it recognizes Act 1 as a "song" and Act 2 as a second, unrelated "song".

Well, today I tried something different. I was listening (but not recording) to the second act of an opera and a duet started half way through the act that I wanted to record. As the duet started I hit the "love" button. When I came back to play it from my Library, it had recorded the entire second act from the begining, not just the selection I wanted. I know I can fast forward to the part I want but why does it record from the start of the act rather than just the part I want?

I knew it buffered but did not know it would record the entire buffer. Thanks, that explains it then.

When you press the Love button, a setup recording screen pops up. If you select the second option, "Recording Options...", then you can change the Start Time and Duration. This will allow you to set it to not record the entire buffer, but just the section for time when it started. You can edit the Start Time in 5 minute increments. So this will let you narrow down to what you only want to record. I have done it when I want to record a piece/segment of the Stern Show.
