It seems that since they can push updates to our stiletto's through WiFi, they could easily give us a FTP Drop Directory that we could push our MP3 files and other Podcasts etc to as well.

As a matter of fact, they could do somthing like the Zune to allow us to share saved content between the units.

You UNIX guys need to figure out this thing so we can start being creative with it.

I just spent over an hour refreshing my stiletto and it would of been nice to create a FTP script to run to move over all my new podcasts each night after they are downloaded.

With Wifi access and Unix at the core, this could be a real powerful unit. Only if we had the keys to open it up.

Maybe its time to learn some UNIX...

It seems like we could reset a stiletto with recover then it would have old firmware. Attach a network sniffer to the line and watch the packets go over to the stiletto as it updates. I'm sure someone who can read the headers in the packets could figure out the ports.

We just need some good people with some equipment.

The thing with the Stiletto is that updates are "pushed" from the WMP stream itself; it'll send a message like "!UPDATE_20061211030622" which will send the Stiletto to retrieve the fixed URL ending in the digits after the underscore. I think you're talking about cell phones and bluetooth there.

The Wifi update "channel" probably does not have access to the "user mp3 partition" on the flash card, just like the MTP daemon does not have access to the "loved songs partition".

Auto copying pod casts should be pretty simple. You either have a service that "listens" for directory content changes, or a "cron" job. From there use the Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit to talk to the SL to transfer the [new] files, and some user specified rule on how to handle out of space conditions (delete oldest first, delete last listened to first, etc, etc). I would consider doing this in my spare time... but I recently got a Wii so I have no more spare time.

"Zuning" files between SL users..... that you would likely need a bluetooth->mtp dongle on each device and somehow the dongle would have to get into the firmware to provide a UI to allow the user to select songs, setup the BT connection, etc, etc. Then you have the *AA DRM issues to address.
