Well I got a new one and a new battery thanks to CC. We'll see how long this one lasts. Hopefully a while.

Sucks having to restock it with all my music. I do feel somewhat special that I was the only one in the history of the stiletto to encounter this problem, according to customer support.

Well here is 2 more cents on the topic.... I love Sirius and the Stiletto is definately a cool device.... But I do question the quality of manufacturing on the hardware.

I got my first one about 2 months ago, it was fine for 2 weeks and then started locking up a lot... having to hard reset or pull the battery. I exchanged it with no problems at BestBuy and now after about 6 more weeks the second one is starting to lock up....... Three times in the past 2 or 3 days.

Again I love Sirius (because of Howard and some of the music channels) but I also have a Pioneer Inno (XM) and the quality of that hardware in my opinion is far superior.

The feel of the Inno is more soild, it has never locked up in 2 months, the user interface is more user friendly and the portable reception is much better for me here in the metro Houston TX area.

I am curious why Sirius went with Directed, I personally am unfimilar with them as a hardware manufacturer. Now Pioneer is well know, has a higher level of public reputation for quality and I feel they make great products. If I could pick up Sirius on the Inno I would give up on the Stiletto.

I personally would be happy if Sirius went with another hardware designer and manufacturer.

So, in my opinion, the Stilleto is of lesser quality than XM's portables. It is not junk, but has design and manufacturing issues thrown into it's supply chain. I feel this opinion is supported by the S50 and the emerging problems with the Stiletto.

If you are having lock ups, it sounds more likely that you would have issues with the software, not the hardware. I have heard from a bunch of people (myself included) that have accidntally dropped the stiletto at least once, and it still works fine.

I do Agree my Inno feels a lot more solid and I feel a lot more safe about going out with it but I like the sofware of the stiletto better. I also think that Sirius needs to look at the cosmetics of there radios. It is my guess that both companies will merge in the future and the hardware will be awsome. Just a gut feeling. I love haveing both but wish that sirius would put out better radios and xm would put out better content. Just my 2 cents.

I think all we each have is our various experiences. You take myself and the Pioneer Inno. I am on my second one. The first one out of the box would shut down for no reason. The battery cover would just fall off, but it seems the little clips on the metal cover were missing or some how broken off during manufacturing. Needless to say I was not impressed. Then I got my second one and it seemed great, until I upgraded the firmware. Now I can't use the FM Tran on it at all, because when I do the unit shuts down or changes channels on its own. The car docks for the Inno are truly crap. There is no support to the tuner it just sort of dangles there on the connector. I've read many reporting how it just comes out of the cradle all together. I've not had that happen, but the cradle design is worse than anything Sirius has ever had. Also when I had version 1.0.5 firmware on the Inno it would sporadically lock up when recording, not to mention had this terrible issue with the battery draining. So the point is these things happen and generally they are fixed.

Now talking about the Stiletto, there is no doubt it has some bugs. I feel that most of those like on the S50 will be addressed. In fact I suspect we'll be getting an update fairly soon. I have no issues comestically with the Stiletto and I don't find that it feels cheap or looks inferior to XM's offerings. The interface on the Stiletto is leaps better than the Inno. The mere fact that it does wifi actually pushes me to use it much more in the course of my days than XM, which I can get no signal with in any of my offices.

The Pioneer Inno has been out how long now? Still no boombox, still no docking for existing boomboxes. What are they waiting for Christmas. OH wait it is Christmas.

Don't even get me started on Delphi, I could give you a run down of the issues and shortcomings of those tuners.

The fact is there are no perfect tuners and there never will be. Beauty and useability are in the eyes of the beholder. I don't think XM's equipment are leaps and bounds better than SIRIUS's I am someone that has had just about every piece of equipment that both have made.

The Stiletto is GREAT and will be even better once they get the bugs worked out. It's really not a very fair assessment to compare a product that has undergone 4 firmware updates against one that has only had one and it wasn't even a real update, it was to bring parity with the channels on the device between LIVE Sat and Wifi.

The reality is that every product is bound to have a few problem units. Looking at the relatively few problems reported in this forum I'd say the Stiletto is pretty damn reliable.

Take it back for a new unit...problem solved.
I would take this post very seriously, I mean.... take a look at his avatar for goodness sakes!

I have both Stiletto and the Inno. I agree that the Inno just has a more solid feel but I have not had any problems with either.

But I was wondering the same thing, many of the 1st generation Sirius radios were "name brands" such as JVC, Tivoli, Sanyo, Kenwood but now all (most?) are Directed products. Why is this? And do you think it hurts sales for customers looking for a name barand product like Sony, Pioneer, Philips, etc?

Directed is the distributer I believe, not the manufacturer. I can tell you though that if the stiletto was made by the company that made the S50, I wouldn't have bought it.
