Default Stiletto Reception Question

I subscribe to both services. Want to buy a Stiletto 10 on E-Bay. I don't care about Wi-Fi or MP3s. Just want to take my daily walk with the equivalent of my XM My Fi. I bought the combo antenna-headphones for my "Airware." It works great. Will it work with the Stiletto?

Are you satisfied with the outdoor reception? I see many people complaining. I live in Suburban Dallas (Frisco) and I would imagine there are repeaters near by. Plano?

Or should I just pass on the thing until Sirius has the equal of XM portables?

Thanks!!

Check Dogstar for repeater locations.

Take a look at the "antenna aiming" on your current Sirius receiver and see if you have a strong terrestrial signal. If you do, you're set.

Unfortunately my other Sirius unit is a Kenwood deck. No satellite menu to get the aiming signal. Will check for repeaters on the map. How do you guys do with just the satellite reception?

There are three repeaters in Dallas. I'm about twenty miles North of Downtown, but my guess is, there is a repeater North of the downtown area.

Just took my XM "Airware" outside. With antenna headphones from Delphi which are very good. NO TERRESTRIAL signal. 3 out of three bars for satellite. Now, i realize XM repeaters may not be located near Sirius repeaters. However, it's a pretty good bet if I can't get XM repeater I won't get Sirius here in the "exurbs."

Well, if you buy from Best Buy or Circuit City you could try it out and then return it if you don't get terrestrial signal. You don't even have to activate it to check reception.

Mine works well outside with the headphones. There really is no magic pill with portable satellite radio. Nor does XM have any special ability with regards to reception. If your XM works well on your walk so will the Stiletto. I think if truth be told most of the people complaining had unreasonable expectations going into their Stiletto purchase. I think being a portable sat rad owner you pretty much know what you can expect. I don't think waiting for the next round of portables is necessary, because reception wise they wont be appreciably better. The only cure for reception is terrestrial repeaters. I say go for it. There's no content like Sirius content.

Went on my walk today with my XM Airware and did get a repeater signal. But it was weak. I get absolutely no skips with my Airware. This is a prime area for consumer electronics sales. Well to do "Burb." My guess is the Sirius signal will be fairly close to my XM signal. Really wanted to listen to NFL play by play today.

Again, go pick one up at Best Buy or Circuit City. When channel 184 comes on you can look at terrestrial/satellite signal. If it's good, you're set- if not, take it back for a full refund.

It won't be automatic that if you can get XM reception that you'll be able to get SIRIUS reception. The only way to find out is to try it as BMF has suggested. I know of areas where I can get great XM reception and poor SIRIUS reception and yet others where I get great SIRIUS reception and poor XM reception. They just don't always go hand and hand.

For what it's worth, I get get repeater reception on my car XM receiver. Only occasional one bar with the Airware. IF the combo antenna-headphone is anywhere near as good as the delphi I use with XM To Go, it will work just fine. My Wife has Sirius deck in her SUV. Flawless reception.

I think there is a Sirius repeater in Richardson, that ought to be close enough to you.
