Default Stiletto WiFi requires SSID broadcast?

I can't get my Stiletto 100 to reconnect to my WiFi network once I turn off SSID broadcasting on my WiFi router. I turned it on so the Stiletto could "see" my network, then once it had successfully connected I turned it back off, but when I went to reconnect the Stiletto said the network wasn't available. Every other WiFi device I own that saves/"remembers" SSID names (which the Stiletto does) has no problem reconnecting to a "hidden" network.

Has anyone else been able to get a Stiletto to reconnect? Broadcasting your SSID is just an unnecessary security risk.

Thanks,

JT

You are trying to make the Stiletto do something it will not do. In the manual it clearly say the SSID must be broadcast. I did not take it that it just meant once, but all the time. It does remember the SSID and does not require that you re-enter your password each time. But for it to see your network to initiate the login the SSID must be broadcast. I realize that some folks don't like this, but that is the way it works. So, you'll have to leave the SSID so that it broadcast. Just setup security and require that the MAC address be entered into your router. This will give you good security with the SSID broadcasting as I know some look at this as just another security measure.

Even if you don't broadcast you're SSID, if somebody wants to figure it out they can very easily. Yes, hiding stops the casual roamer. But as already stated, just add mac address security.

Is this something they will look at changing in the future? I'm on a college campus with a huge wireless network, but it's all hidden access points.

I don't think anyone can really answer that question at this time. I know many would like to see them change this, but there would need to be an interface to manually input the SSID. I doubt we'll see that on this particular device. Perhaps in future devices!

DAB, it wouldnt take hardware to spell words using the Stiletto dial and select key... And its not that big of a deal for the enduser to enter once and have it saved..

I would love to have a secure network, but with all the things going off it with old software versions (PC, Mac, Tivo, PDA), no matter how I do it, one of them is always incompatible with the number of encryption bits... A hidden SSID is the only thing I can do that everything works with...

Yes, I understand no hardware, but it would take them adding the interface to the current hardware for it to work. But using the dial and select keys would be easy to use, since we already do that for the password on secured networks.

Thus far on the devices they have not been very good at changing and/or adding interface changes, so this is why I say it may not happen till the next device, but who knows.

Oh ok, sorry i misunderstood.

As another thread showed, there is a huge list of wish list items for the Stiletto -- Some more realistic than others... This is the one that is at the top of my list, so I like to chime in to show a developer wandering thru the board that it is something that people want...

If you are on a college network, there may also be a login page that you would use to access the network. The Stiletto doesn't do this, and I would assume it would be tough to program it to work with a login page.

I agree I think the Stiletto would almost need to have a browser to offer this ability.
