Question I am going insane...

I bought the Stiletto 100 at Futureshop in Montreal, Quebec about 3 days ago, the next day I had fully charged it and I tried to get a connection from my basement apartment so I stood against the window and aimed the Stiletto and antenna headphones against the sky and I couldn't get any connection whatsoever, so I walked outside to see if I could get any connection at all to update and download the information that the radio needed and I managed to get 1 single bar and I called Sirius Canada and asked if this was normal and the rep told me I might have a unit with a bad antenna and that I should return it and get a new one which I did.

Yesterday after a long wait I finally got it exchanged and got a brand new radio and I also bought the Stiletto Executive Dock got my account set up with a rep at Sirius Canada who was very sweet and nice because I am disabled and have problems speaking at times, anyway my radio wouldn't receive the signal that they sent to unlock my radio and my phone died so I had to wait until this morning and I finally got my radio working so I could listen to the programming.

I was told that the reception problem should disappear after I get registered and I just finished taking it for a walk about 8 blocks down to buy some food and the whole time I had a single bar of reception and really bad sound quality seeing as I didn't have any good reception to begin with and then when I stand outside the grocery store looking through the stations my radio starts sounding like a lot of sound problems and the whole radio freezes and I have to remove the battery to correct the problem, I was also told that I should be able to use it inside the YMCA gym because that is why I bought it and that I could listen to radio when I go out on my long walks, I have also noticed that it breaks up a lot if I walk under tree branches that doesn't have any leaves on it and I know that trees are not good for reception because of the satellite won't be able to see me but naked branches??

Can somebody tell me if I should return this radio and get a new one or what I should do because I can't get any reception in my apartment either with the windowsill antenna or with the radio and/or antenna headphones and it is driving me insane, I really love the Sirius programming but I don't know if I can use it at all seeing as it doesn't work at home or outside with only 1 bar of reception so even though I don't like the XM programming at all but I might have to switch to them instead if I can't get all of this fixed.

Thanks in Advance and I am sorry about my rant but I am at my wits end and I don't know what to do anymore.

Btw another small rant, 1 or 2 times when I have called Sirius Canada Customer Support and I talked to them about my problems, one of them told me that I should wear the antenna headphones and then I asked how I should do with the windowsill antenna and the answer I got was that I should wear the antenna headphones and almost every question I asked which was about the strength of the repeater and other technical stuff like that I got the answer that I should wear my antenna headphones and the person sounded like a parrot that could only say "You should wear your antenna headphones" and nothing else.

Ok I am done, hope to get some replies soon because I feel like I am about to rip all the hair out of my head, that is how frustrated I am about all these problems.

I had a similar problem with reception where I live in Concord, CA. I finally gave up after an overcast weekend seemed to eliminate reception altogether.

I'm also an XM sub. I was real excited to be adding the Sirius service for content reasons, but it's quite obvious that Sirius is still miles behind XM when it comes to hardware and reception.

Too bad as they've lost me for the time being after just 3 weeks.

I hope you have better luck.

Lightbulb Here is an Update...

Well I just got off the phone with both Sirius Canada and XM Canada.

I called XM Canada Tech Support asking how many repeaters that they have situated in Montreal, Quebec and the girl took about 2-3 minutes to check out the information and came back to me and let me know that they have 4 of them, then I called Sirius Canada Tech Support and asked the exact same question and the girl there told me that they don't have any repeaters supposedly, they only have satellites so I kept pushing her and she took about 1-2 minutes and then came back and told me that she had no information at all about that and this is supposed to be tech support (geez) so I ask her if she has a supervisor that might have more information and she told me no and seeing as I wasn't getting anywhere and she had no information or wouldn't want to give me any information whichever it is I told her thanks and hanged up, after that I noticed that XM USA has about 170 channels so I called XM Canada and asked how I would go about getting a membership with XM USA and I was told that I could buy a XM Radio here in Canada and if I had an address in the US then I could get a membership with XM USA so that is what I am gonna do.

Is sad to hear the problems you are having, after plunking down the money for a Stiletto. Check out this site: http://www.dogstarradio.com/sirius_map.php

It doesn't seem there are active repeaters in your area which makes reception with the Stiletto difficult, to say the least. You said you were planning to use it at the GYM. Do they have an open internet connection there? If they do, did you try the internet radio option? If the answer is no to the first question, then yes you should return it.

Having said that, you could probably benefit from a different unit like the S50. The prices are cheap now and you could get the home kit for it. By having the antenna with a clear view of the sky you shouldn't have any reception problems and you could record content so that you can take to the gym with you.
I don't blame you at all for switching to XM. Hey, you bought an expensive piece of equipment that failed your expectations and their costumer service person whose job is to serve your needs, did a horrible job at it, while XM did a good job. I just hope you give Sirius a chance because I'm sure once you find a receiver that meets your needs, you will not be dissapointed with the content Sirius provides. Also, if you do decide to get a different receiver, check out the diferent forums on this site. There is very valuable information here and you should take full advantage of it.

Best of luck to you.
