They will be available, they just are available yet. Last I heard they are expected in Mid January or so.

Hopefully at about the same time they release some real wearable comfortable antenna headphones. SURELY they will.

The headset antenna is not very good. I only get marginally better reception with it plugged in vs. using the built in antenna. I only get one bar, satellite, standing out in the open and aiming in the proper direction (as well as other directions). I hope they come out with a more effective portable solution.

I went ahead and modified my headset, as I won't be using the headphone portion..

I get 1 bar indoors without the antenna, but with the antenna plugged in I get 2-3 bars.

I am talking about satelite only reception. If you have nearby repeater it will be fine. There is no repeater near me and the headset antenna does very little. I get 3 bars satelite with the home and car antenna.

I have tried this with my PainPhones. I cut off the cables to the earphones themselves and now the antenna does not work. I wonder what is up with that?

How sad is it that we HAVE to do these types of things to our $500 piece of "portable" machinery?

Unless you somehow shorted out the wires in cutting them, it should not be an issue. The ground on the headphone is the same as the shield to the antenna. If the wires are shorted than that could cause an issue.

Take a look at some of the pictures in the VDCHawk Antenna Earbud Project post. You should be able to just go an un-solder the earphone from the circuit board to not short out anything.

On pg 10 there is a picture about un-soldering the existing headphones. If you do this you will not short anything out.

Here is the picture:

Also for the guy that cut off his earpieces and didn't want to, you should be able to buy a cheap pair of ear buds and cut the speaker ends off. Then solder them to circuit board like in the post rubin is showing.

Unhappy

Yeah I cut them short and tried the antenna. Did I short out the antenna? If I unsolder the short wires now will the antenna work?

Thank you for all assistance

Yes, like I said in my post, The antenna should work, ( if it worked before ). You can un-solder the earphone wires, and if you want re-solder some very comfortable ear-bud wires. Follow the instructions in the link I provided in my previous post.
