Default If you could redo My Sirius Studio...

What features would you like to see?

I'm planning on making a replacement for My Sirius Studio. I have no plans to have it be an online player, simply a song management utility to transfer your songs to/from the SL.

The big feature I plan on having is to allow my version transfer all the songs contained in a .m3u file to the SL.

I would love it if we could utilize the wifi capability of the stiletto and set it up so it would be able to receive files via FTP. Have MSS be able to schedule the move of files. In this way all my podcasts would be automatically moved over to the stiletto ready for me in the morning.

There are two or three daily podcasts that I listen to. Its really a pain to move them.

Scheduling a sync, great idea. Since the filename for a podcast is different/episode I will probably need to go and detect when the contents of a directory changes and do it that way. This would require a service to be running. And I would need to manage directory changes while the device is not docked.

FTP'ing..... As far as I can tell there is no FTP server on the device. At best I can make the auto-sync directory, above, and if you can FTP to that it would be close to what I think you are looking for.

I think a better approach would be to move them to a specific directly say a date named directory so I could tell which ones were new. But just getting them over anywhere would be great.

Agreed. Some way of getting podcasts on to the Stiletto is missing.

It would also be nice to have Apple/iMac usability as well. My computer is an Intel iMac, so I had to load the My Studio Software and Yahoo Music on my daughter's Windows based PC. Not a huge problem, but now I've got to keep a music list on my daughter's computer and on my iMac as well.

A plug-in for iTunes would probably solve all of these issues. Apple/iMac usability, podcasts, music collections, etc. I know iTunes would never give rights for songs downloaded through their service to the Stiletto, but there is always away around that too - dump them to CD, rip them back into iTunes - DRM is then gone. My daughter has a PocketDISH, and that is accesible through iTunes, not sure why the Stiletto is not except for the Mac usability issue.

This will be Win32 only as I don't have a Mac to play with...

Now an iTunes plugin would be cool, but from what I have seen it does not look like Apple has released any kind of SDK for it, otherwise there would be a whole lot of 3rd party plugins out there. I could be looking in the wrong place, dunno.

Have you tried using the Win32 emulator for the Mac? That could be another work around for you.

I've thought about Parallels and BootCamp, but I'd prefer to keep my iMac "Windows FREE". If my choices are having to use my daughter's Windows PC or cluttering my iMac with Windows - I'll take using my daughter's machine any day of the week! You know what they say - "Once you go Mac, you'll never go back!"

Good luck with this. I will be very excited to see what you come up with. Something less clumsy than the current MSS would be great!

I'd love to be able to schedule recordings through MSS - particularly if there was a tivo-like guide that displayed all the programs and all you had to do was click 'em. Then they'd either be automatically added to the Stiletto if it was plugged in, or added when it synched.

Beginning to flesh out an idea.

1) Break the code down into a windows service (allows for "auto syncing"), a main UI exe, and an Explorer shell extension (optional).

2) Create a shell extension so that in Explorer the user may select files, right click and select 'Create Playlist' that will create a M3U on the spot. Similar to how Winzip works.

3) The main UI will NOT show a file explorer.
3a) The main UI will allow for File|Add and File|Add Folder
3b) Primary use will be via the "auto sync folder(s)"
3c) Files/playlists may be dragged and dropped on to the main UI for instant transfer

3) Drag and drop from the main UI (if allowed) to Explorer

4) Grab the device ID and maintain a profile/device....

And an early concept UI:

Comments/suggestions/feature ideas?

Personally, I would stick with integrating the SL into popular Music Management Systems like iTunes and MediaMonkey. Currently, MediaMonkey integrates with the SL quite nicely however it doesn't have the ability to upload playlists to the SL. This is because SL does not permit .pls files to be uploaded directly and must be done through MSS. MSS maintains playlist information in xml format and with the use of stiletto.dll this integration can be possible. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time investigating the dll structure included in MSS.

How about a ID3/Tag edit function? Do you think it's possible to edit the tag info directly on the Stiletto? That's one thing that I think would be handy on MSS.

that would be very nice if you could wirelessly transfer songs from pc to stiletto and they definitely do need a apple/mac studio because many people with sirius are relatively rich and many relatively rich people also choose to go with apple/mac as they are more expensive, have more features, and are better

Let me summerize your post.

Have Sirius = Rich People

Rich People = Mac Users...

Mac's = Better PC and More Features.

I think you are wrong on all three counts.

Rich people tend to have both, or would not care about buying a PC just to connect to the Stiletto.

Smart people use/make the right tool for the job. Be it Windows, Mac OS, or Linux.

Remember this is not a wireless transfer tool (as I don't think the wifi connection has access to your on board library) but will be an automatic transfer tool with drag and drop support.

I did go poking around for a MediaMonkey SDK.... not much out there except for some simplistic scripting.
