Default Just bought a Stiletto yesterday. Love it. Couple of questions.

1. Any runners out there that bring the Stiletto along? If so, what's the best option for a carrying case? Arm or belt clip?

2. I plan to record Stern and then bring the unit along with me (in the car) and listen to recorded content. Do I need a vehicle kit for this or can I just use a cassette adapter and plug it directly into the radio itself?

3. If I'm out of town for a few days and I schedule the unit to record the Stern Show and wrap up show (6 hours) while having the unit on the home dock and in sleep mode, will it power on and record each day? I ask this only because it says the unit will power down after 18 hours in sleep mode. If my math is correct, it'll record the show for 6 hours, go back into sleep mode and in 18 hours it should record the next day's show. Or will it shut down after those 18 hours in sleep mode?

Anyway, thanks for all your help. This place has been an invaluable source of info.

I'm not a runner, but I got one of these. It has both the armband and belt clip.

If the cassette adapter uses a stereo headphone jack as its input, then you are good. The car kit is nice as you can get a sturdy install, so you can listen to live content as well. I do recommend that you hardwire the device to your head unit to get the best sound quality.

I can not answer your third question as I do not record shows, yet.

I use the same armband that BootsC5 cited.

I use the home kit. I can't speak for the car kit and how it would be used in such a scenario.

The Stiletto will not power down from sleep mode if it's in the home dock receiving power 24/7. Your math is correct.

I too use the portable use kit.

This give you both options. I found for the radio not to flop around I had to make the band too tight and it was unconfortable. The band slides into a belt loop on the case, but it also has a button and a swival to attach to your shorts or on your belt. I like this model because not only does it cover the sides and back of the radio but it has a plastic cover covering most of the lcd and buttons around the wheel. This keeps the sweat off most of the radio. I use some sony headphones that go around the back of my head and run the cord down my shirt into the radio attached to my shorts. I tend to listen to downloaded Mp3's when on the run or treadmill. When walking I tend to listen to podcasts. Unless a football game is on, I will only listen live because unless I'm outside it cuts out without those hurtfull antenna headphones. At home I have a treadmill where I use wifi and can listen to live content but with the treadmill I usually leave the unit in the cup holder.

1. Speck makes some really nice rubber cases w/ armbands. Search for "Tough Skin."

2 and 3 I can't answer.

I have the following case for my stiletto and love it, it protects the unit completely and has a removable back part for the dock, I clip it on while I'm running and have had no problems, even the buttons are protected.

You can just use the cassette adapter for this purpose, just remember that the live content will be very hard to pickup without the car adapter, so you will pretty much be limited to your Radio Replays and your Libraries content.

I actually haven't tried this yet, but it sounds logical that this would work. Don't even bother trying this in the car dock though as it has a battery protection feature that if no buttons are pushed on the car dock for 4 hours, the unit will automatically power down.

To save your time viewing other posts all day long, I'll tell you a few things that the stiletto lacks that people have been talking about. It seems that people wish that there was a viewable clock on the unit when it is on. Also, it is well noted by others that you can't tell if it is being charged while the power is down. Another feature that people seem to be complaining about is the auto shut off feature on the car dock. Well, I hope I saved you some time and this site is absolutely great. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at jasoncardenas21@yahoo.com and I'll try to help you out.

Default Thanks a lot for all the info jasoncardenas21.

I ordered a case a couple of days ago and I'll give a go. I think I'll get the one you linked me as well because it looks to give alot a protection.

Thanks again.

Default Case

Smitty,

I have a bunch of cases and can give you my 2 cents. I have the Speck ToughSkin and Speck ActiveSport armband for the Stiletto. http://www.speckproducts.com/for-stiletto.html. I originally had the S50 SkinTight case for my S50 and loved it but have not been as impressed with the new Speck cases for my Stiletto. Getting the Stiletto in and out of the ToughSkin is kind of a hassle since it's such a tight fit. I take it in and out whenever I put it in the dock since the unit gets so hot. I also hate how the clear plastic cover is seperate and sits on top of the Stilleto and slides around a little when you put the Stiletto in the case. I don't understand why they don't have the clear plastic cover permanently fit into the ToughSkin case. The Speck Armband is very (too) big and bulky. I find it slips a lot due to the size and weight of the armband and the Stiletto when at the gym so I have to make it very tight to prevent it from slipping, practically cutting off my circulation.

I also purchased the Directed belt loop and armband case (combined together in one kit) and have been happy with them overall. I like that the belt loop case has a smaller footprint, the plastic cover is built into the case, and it's a lot easier to get it in and out of the case. I also like the armband better than the Speck. The armband fits through the case and is much smaller than the Speck and is very flexible so more easily goes on and stays on my arm.

Hope that helps.

Rob

You can record without a car dock, but like Jason said, it's hard to pick up. Also I've seen it stop recording or record dead air when it's not picking up the signal. I think if it gets No Signal for a certain period of time it stops recording.

Default thanks rforeman.

I can't wait to see what I ordered. It sounds like they haven't created the perfect case yet, so if I don't like the one I ordered from TSS, I'll look into the ones you mentioned.

I like the look of the toughskin, but sound like it has it's problems.

Also, the Speck armband looks great, but does appear to be bulky.

The dual one you mentioned is the one I really wanted, but I couldn't find it in stock anywhere.

So I ordered a leather case that had a belt clip from TSS. Not sure of the product number right now. I'll get it anytime and let you know what I think.

Anyway, thanks again.

Smitty
