Default volume w/o antenna headphones is terrible!

is there anyway to fix this? i hate the antenna headphones but using any other pair is horrible! when i have my good headphones on AND i plug in the antenna headphones the sound gets so much louder, but without the antenna headphones the volume sucks. is there a fix out there for this?

You can always use both. put the antenna headphones around your neck and the confortable ear phones of your choice plugged into the stereo earphone jack into your ears. That's what most of us do. Some have hide the antenna headphones in your hat!

is there any adapter in development to fix this?

what about cutting off the headphones at the base and just leaving the input plugged in, eliminating extra wire? will the volume increase then? or must the actual headphones still be "connected"?

cutting the wire should work but dont do it unless you know you wont ever use them again. i wish bose or sony or something could cooperate with sirius to create a more stylish and better sounding and more comfortable version of the antenna headphones. also, try turning up the system volume of the stiletto, i dont know if you already did that. out of the box its set to 75% i think but you can turn it up to 100 if you want.
go to settings -> audio and display -> system volume and turn it up

Of course my suggestion will require an extra component and I don't know if you want to fool with that but there is a guy from Canada who builds mini headphone amps and sells them on Ebay that would fix your problem. They run on two, rechargeable AA batteries.

Gary, the engineer, is excellent and I have purchased a couple sets from him (several years apart as each generation model gets better). The unit is very compact, has a volume control and is well built. It even comes with an AC power pack/battery charger. Type into the ebay search Pa2v2 and you can pull up his auctions. They don't cost a whole lot either. He is a person of great integrity and will fix anything that goes wrong - ever - with any of his amps for free. The unit itself is smaller than a pack of cigs.

Is this really a common problem? My volume is pretty solid no matter what I'm using, do you think maybe you have a bad headphone connection in your stiletto? sounds like something I'd be worried enough about to exchange the stiletto for a new one that works properly

I use $10 headphones from Wallgreens and never have to turn it up more than 75%, even when biking in the wind.

I am using the ear phones from my Ipod, and the volume is great. You may have a defective unit.

I dont think his unit is defective. i am having the same issue. I dont like to blast it, but, when walking in the wind, it becomes difficult to hear because the volume wont go any higher.

I have a question. If plugging the antenna headphones in jacks up the volume, what if I plug the USB cable in? it is the same exact connector as the headphones. I dont mind cutting the wire to the USB cable being I may never use it. I think, as long as I have the home dock, there is no need for the USB cable. Correct?

Forget it. i just answered my own question. i just triediy , and, plugging the antenna headphones significantly increases the volume, but, plugging in the USB cable does nothing. Strange though, because they both have the same connector. is there something inside the antenna headphones that boosts the volume? That make me think that if I did cut the wire for the headphones to only use the connector to increase volume, that, it might not work afterall.

I also find that the earbuds that come with the S100/10 are louder than my Koss ear buds.

Must be impeadance on the headphones.

The volume on my Sennheiser CX 300 in ear earphones is much louder than my Sony earphones of same type. They are rated at 112 db per mw verses about 100 for the Sony. Louder than any headphones I have, way louder. They are not cheap at 55 to 75 dollars, but well rated for the money !

Don't cut the usb cable. You'll need it to do future updates through MSS. I know you can do updates through wifi but I always heard that it's better to do the updates through a solid connection via computer. .......Less chance something getting messed up....

Well, being that the home dock is connected via USB, wouldnt it be possible to do updates through that ? Im not planning on cutting the USB cable anymore, but, just figured I would throw this question out there.
