Default Death of 2 Stilleto 100's?

Hello,

Have had two Stilletos now and both have failed in the same way by simply using them with the car dock. The first worked for about 2 minutes in the car dock before coming up with a "no antenna detected" message. The device continued to work otherwise but never worked in the car dock again. I finally got a replacement Stilleto from Sirius and just plugged it into the car dock and it lasted about 3 minutes before the same "no antenna detected" error came up. I've tried different car docks and antennas but these make no difference. I'm about to throw the damn thing against a wall! Any advice/thoughts?

Thanks,

Dave Morello

This is a tough one, but it sounds to me like you've got a defective dock that maybe doing damage to the Stiletto itself. I think I would have tried the new one in a different dock instead of the same dock. This would have allowed you to know it was the dock and not the Stiletto. But whatever it does to the Stiletto seems to cause it not to work with other docks. This is the first I've seen of this issue.

Coming down in 3...2...1....Shock the Stiletto! That sucks. The units won't even turn back on after the 3 minutes? Have you tried returning that and trying a home dock for shits and giggles?

I've seen this message on my car dock a couple of times. Both times, I noticed that there was no power being supplied to the dock - One time, the ignition was turned off and the message appeared. The other time, my brother pulled the plugg from the cigar lighter without me knowing and when i plugged in the Stiletto and turned on the ignition, the message appeared.

Everything worked fine when the power was restored.

Maybe you have a loose power connection that only comes on momentarily when you move the cradle?

Mark.

Dave,

Did you hard-wire the power to your car dock?

Yes, I've seen that many times, but usually it is when I have turned the ignition off in my car, I see the No Antenna Detected message for a few seconds then the shut down timer comes up. But I too have unplugged the power and gotten this message. But he is saying he's tried it on several docks, surely not all of them have no power.

I still think its a defective dock causes some problems for the Stiletto, but that is just a guess on my part. Hawk has a good question, because if he hardwired that one dock, he is more than likely sending a full 12 volts to a 5 volt device. This would likely do it in so that it wouldn't work on other docks either.

I assumed what he meant was that it powers up but no reception because it knows it's docked and expects power or antenna from the dock?

Even though he may have tried different docks, if it was the same car, then I thought maybe intermittent power is going to the cigar socket - doesn't matter if you keep swapping docks.

Just a newbie throwing out some theories.

That may well be, since he didn't really elaborate, we are left to speculate. I guess we'll find out when and if he replies. LOL

The OP said he has already tried different docks.

I've had this once or twice but it was due to the power cord becoming slightly unplugged over time.

First post by this person; I've got my doubts about how legit this person is...let's see if they follow up.

I have my car dock hard wired via the included lighter adapter and radioshack adapter hidden underneath my dash. The new lighter plugged into the radioshack adapter is not a tight fit, and would back out and cause the "countdown to sleep" and "no antenna detected". I wrapped electrical tape around the pair to keep them together, and have had no problems since.

He said he used different car docks, but he didn't say he used different cars... Like some others are saying, I would put it at a loose lighter. Mine does the same thing... I freek out for a few seconds then realize that the plug is loose.

I had the same issue in my car dock. I used my XM My-fi cigarette lighter adapter (5V). It is working great! My home dock had a similar issue. It seems that the Stiletto has an issue when the antenna is not detected (becaue of the lack of power) and the Stiletto switching over to battery at the same time. If I supply good power and a good antenna I don't seem to get the Sirius connect error either.

Same problem on mine - except mine is located on my home dock. I'm on my second receiver now and it locks up, reboots at the drop of the hat, and now I have the classic "Antenna Not Detected" message. My first radio's sceen turned white and locked up permanently. What a POS this pricey little purchase is. I've had my Pioneer Inno since last May and it's been flawless. I really feel SIRIUS should have partnered with more reputable hardware makers to make their devices. Directed Electronics is the satellite equivalent of the cheaply designed KRACO radios you used to buy at PEP BOYS in the 80's but about 500% more expensive.
