I've got a question about the car dock. When I have the Stiletto in it with the large battert, I can't lock the unit in the dock. when I use the smaller batter, it locks in fine. Any ideas why that is?

I really don't want to take it back to Best Buy (got mine there also) since it would mean I would loose all of my sat recordings.

I'm using the slim battery - what about you SatelliteGhost?
I've tried both batteries, neither charge in the car dock. Both charge in the home docks. I usually keep the Lock on when in the dock. BB went through their last 3 docks trying to get it to work. I may be able to go back this weekend and see if another dock works or a new Stiletto does. Other than this my Stiletto has been great so hopefully it's not the problem.

I don't know, because I don't use the small battery at all and mine locks just fine with the extended battery.

Have you tried using the car dock in the house? Just plug the wall plug adapter into it? I was doing that at first - I can't remember if the charging indicator was on or off for me then.

I have a similar question: when does it charge via the USB cable?

Last week I thought I would charge it via the computer. The USB cable doesn't have power with the computer off so I turned the computer on and left the Stiletto off. Left it 4 hours, then turned it on to move a few mp3's on. That process took about 20mins. When I was done, I disconnected the Stiletto and was surprised to see that I only had minimal power.

So it seemed to be that for the 4 hours with the Stiletto off, it didn't charge. But for the last 20 mins with it on, it did. Is that the expected behavior?

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

My car dock doesn't seem to charge either. On the home dock you would think it would charge in the first slot (the one that you use to play) but it doesn't. Mine only charges in the second slot.

Actually, mine does seem to eventually start charging. But the pattern seems to be that it doesn't do any charging for about the first 10-15 mins. When I first turn it on, the green plus flashes on, then off about 1/2 sec later. Then after 10-15 mins it comes on persistently and does actually charge the battery.

So it seems like the unit has to "warm up" first before charging starts. Does that sound like the intended behavior?

did you take the little plastic adaptor piece out when the large battery was in the dock? I don't think you can use the dock with the large battery with the piece in, but maybe you did.

Thanks for the tip! I plugged my wall adapter into my car dock and the Stiletto does charge in the car dock. I must have a bad power adapter in the car or a bad connection. I just have to find the time toget to BB. thanks again.

It sounds to me like you have a bad Stiletto, both slots should charge on the home dock, and it should charge in the car dock.

Yes, I think mine was the same way but I can't quite remember. And now my dock is screwed in the car and I can't be bothered to pull it out to re-test it. Mine does start to charge after about 10 minutes in the car though. Just not at first. And I don't want to take it back to BB and loose my recordings.

Incidentally, what type of car do you have it in? I have mine in a Grand Cherokee in the power slot, not the cigarette lighter.

I have mine in a Nissan Pathfinder. I had BB hardwire mine in with a splitter adapter into the cigarette lighter. The tech thought it worked becase it was fully funtional. He thought it would charge when it wasn't full. I just haven't had time to get to BB yet.

How many of you are actually using the lock?!?

I too was having intermittant charging while in the car dock. I was not using the lock. One day, when it was not charging, I tried playing with it to see if it would charge. I took it out, reinserted it, and nothing seemed to work. Then I tried locking it and it would not lock unless I pushed it down into the dock even more. Once locked it began charging.

Either here is some safety built into the lock switch or the charger is a bit finnicky and must be fully inserted to charge. No matter what the cause, it is probably a good idea to use the lock since it will hold the stilletto in place and ensure a proper connection without shaking out while driving.
