Default VDCHawk Antenna Earbud Project - How To Guide -

I've just completed the first edition of the VDCHawk Antenna Headphone Earbud Conversion Project. It's a How To manual to help solve the painful Antenna Headphones.

The document is a PDF and is available for download Here.

The original Antenna Headphone Modification post was written by VDCHawk and I, with his help, put this manual together. Thank you Keith for your help on this project!

Use this thread for feedback on the document.

Enjoy!

Mike

Big thanks to Mike for making my procedure look professional, and filling in the gaps. He truly is a Top Dog.

For my vehicle installation using the Sirius Pro-Kit installation kit see http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...ad.php?t=93128

bump

im not a handy guy but i do have most equip. needed

however, i like the switchable earbuds idea cause i dont even have them yet

i have a cple a questions

i will be skiing in the mountians @ the end of the month

(and have inner ear infection, which is why earbuds are out of the question @ the moment)

and realized today the i get better repception when the ant. is actually on the head, instead of hanging by a window cell

so can i take the earpieces out for now and use velcro 4 hat
and go back in a put earbuds in later?

thx

Lukin4U,

Never got to the universal jack. I was going to cut-off the end of a stereo headphone extension, and connect it to the circuitboard. Then you could use any headset you want.

You could unsolder and remove the existing earbuds, and velcro the unit to a hat. Plug your choice of headphones into the bottom of the Stiletto.

Be sure not to leave excess solder on the board, if you short the headset connections it may cause problems with the headphones you are plugging in.

Good luck, and happy skiing.

Brilliant!

I don't know how I missed this post.

This on my “todo” list for sure.
I’ll give it a try with an 1/8” headphone jack and let you know if it all works out.
Thanks guys. You rock.

My ears still hurt from those damn headphones. I know my limitations and would never be able to modify my headphones to use the earbuds.

Can I plug the anteann headphones in and still use another set of more comfortable headphones via the headphone jack?

would anyone be willing to modify my antenna headphones (Hecticart?) to have a headphone jack? I am willing to pay, indeed.

There is no reason you cannot put the Antenna headphones around your neck and use another pair of ear buds in the headphone jack. The issue is if you have to plug in the power adapter. All three don't fit together.

Before I made my special cable,

I used to put the antenna headphones under my baseball hat and use earbuds. That seemed to work well.

When I had it in my hat, I just put the entire antenna in there with the antenna side point to the front. The connectors just came out the back of my hat and plugged into the radio that was on my belt . I used headbuds that were plugged into the radio which went into my ears.

Basically I just laid them on my head and covered them with the hat. No one wants to be seen with the dorky headphones on anyway.

Default My Headphone Mod

The instructions for the Headphone mod are great. They helped me take my headset apart.
I did something a little different. I took the headset apart and removed the ear buds than cut the lower part of the ear bud mount off. The headset looks like a perfect letter "C" Than I zipped tied the antenna to a good set of headphones and plugged the headphones to the radio audio out jack. Works great.
