Default Stiletto Support Chat Transcript 1-15-07

RyanM: Welcome to our Stiletto Support Chat. This is a moderated chat room. You will not be able to type in this room unless we open up the room for discussion.

QuestionBot: Please message QuestionBot by clicking on QuestionBot on the right hand side, and send your question as a private message.

RyanM: We'll take your question from the QuestionBot and pass it on to our experts who will give their answers in this chatroom.

RyanM: If you are experiencing any trouble with getting your question into the QuestionBot, please double-click one of the Moderators at the top of the list to your right for assistance.

RyanM: Please ask you questions to the QuestionBot now...

1. ruinah asks: i have issues with going from home dock to car dock and back and forth. I always need to pull the battery and reboot it.

We're aware of the issue and it will be addressed in next release (very soon!)

2. jasoncardenas21 asks: My question is about the car dock shutting off after no buttons have been touched for 4 hours, can this be fixed?

this is as designed to protect against battery drain.

3. me_rubin asks: Will there ever be a adapter that will allow us to directly connect a better antenna directly to the stiletto? Not the antenna headphones, something more like the dot micro or the home dock antenna?

At this time, we have no plans but will consider all customer suggestions.

4. VDCHawk asks: Are there any plans for aftermarket accessories, portable antennas mainly?

There are existing accessories already but no plans for antenas.

We will consider for the future.

5. rgarjr asks: Will we see CD-quality sound from the WIFI soon?

There plans to support high-bit rate audio via WiFi soon.

6. buttugly asks: I remember in the forums something about dock upgrades, did that ever get resolved....

What is the specific issue?

DaJoker: buttugly, can you clarify and ask your question again please?

7. jasoncardenas21 asks: Do you have any plans of putting the clock on the screen so it is viewable?

Yes -- we will have a clock.

8. lex412 asks: Soon is a relative term. When will the next update be?

It's in final test.

9. buttugly asks: It was just something I read, it seemed a few members docks were locking up?

We'll need more details on the lockup. We can follow up after the the chat with the moderators.

10. ruinah asks: about the Sirius Connect issues.....can they be fixed with a new software as well? seems a lot of us encounter this one

Yes -- the fix is coming.

11. me_rubin asks: Will there ever be a sleep timer on the stiletto?

It is under evaluation.

12. lex412 asks: If it is in the final test, would you say the next update will be in about a week, about a month, or about a year?

Less than a month.

13. jmcn72 asks: Can we expect any 3rd party vendors providing accessories for the Stiletto?

There are already 3rd party accessories on the market.

14. idioso asks: When will people that have the upgraded internet package start receiving this via wifi?

It is not yet announced. Please watch for future announcements.

15. rgarjr asks: What will we expect on the new firmware, any visual changes?

There is a clock in the Now Playing screen.

16. idioso asks: when i connect to my wifi and loads the channel I select it generally plays for about 30 seconds and then kicks back to the sat/wifi/library screen

This may be an issue with your access point. Check the troubleshooting instructions that came with your Stiletto.

17. xan_user asks: Can we get the ability to automatically eliminate recordings made while reception signal is spotty?

We're looking to improve the recording experience.

18. GTF asks: When you "Love" a song that already exists in the library the Stiletto would record it again. The S50 would ignore the request to record a song that already existed. Is this going to be fixed in the Stletto?

We are evaluating this on the Stiletto.

19. idioso asks: Will an favorite arist alert ever be incorporated?

Not at this time.

20. lex412 asks: will support for wireless g be added?

Definitely in the future ...

21. me_rubin asks: Any chance we will ever be able to download our own graphics like wallpapers to the stiletto?

No immediate plans.

22. buttugly asks: When will linux be supported with the software side?

No immediate plans but we keep track of all requests.

23. VDCHawk asks: Are there any plans for a signal repeater to use while inside?

No immediate plan.

24. jasoncardenas21 asks: Will there be a way to view your favorites on your stiletto, or will we always have to plug into a computer?

No plans at this time.

25. ruinah asks: with the wireless G, can you allow us to still Hide our SSID's and the Stiletto still connect? Big security risk there...

Let me clarify -- Wireless G support will be in new models; it cannot be provided for existing models. Regarding future implemenation of 802.11G, we will be as secure as possible.

DaJoker: This concludes the moderated portion of our chat. We'd like to thank everyone for participating in the chat this evening.

Unanswered questions:
1 Does a complete list of Stilletto bugs exist, other than the list in Dab's head
2 Would it be possible to stream all channels to Stilletto owners by wifi, on the radio only.

1. There was an initial list that was provided to my contact. This information was provided in a couple of different threads we had going at the time. So, I don't keep it in my head even though its big and I probably could, I keep my memory storage for other things a little more personal to me. I suppose we could start a thread and keep it going. The problem is that most of those threads just end up getting confusing with a bunch of non-bug talk. But when I see a new issue, I do make note of it and if I can recreate it, I do report it.

2. It is possible to stream all the channels to the Stiletto if SIRIUS was streaming them. But they are not and will not due to the limitation of their licensing agreements.

Next... LOL

We did/do have a sticky on the S50 forum, would be nice to have a one-stop shop for Stilletto newbies (like me) to do a sanity check. Just a list, then lock the thread maybe, you could add to it after validating a bug report.

Sounds like a very reasonable request and I'll work on getting that up in the next day or so. Thanks for the suggestion!

Can someone tell us how the chat worked? Why was it so slow to answer questions?

Did the moderators have to re-type all the questions? Or were the people from Zing?? or Sirius?? on the phone with them?

Next time it needs to run faster. Some of us had a chatroom ongoing. That was good to comment on the Q&A.

We do appreciate the feedback. How it worked was that when you typed in a question to the bot, the questions were then automatically posted to them, when they replied to the question, the question along with the response was automatically posted to the moderated room.

Part of the problem is one of the key folks was having computer problems, another ones computer crashed, all during the chat. Even though we told them in advance to make sure they had the latest version of java and to test out getting into the chat they did not do this and so these problems presented themselves either during or right before the chat was to begin.

The process for someone new has a bit of a learning curve, so that created a bit of slow down as well. We have learned a great deal from this chat and suspect with more experience they will get faster and better.

I do think in the future will keep an open chat room and then folks can be dialoging and having fun in one room, while getting the information being provided in the official moderated chat room.

Overall considering this was the first real test of the moderating/question bot scripts and setup it went pretty well. Though I had hoped that we'd get some better and more detailed responses, I more or less expected that we'd pretty much get general answers and we did.

I think to say that NOTHING was learned just isn't true. The fact that we'll have a clock coming in the next update. We know the update is basically coming anyday now (no exact date announced) I am assuming this is because they have to get SIRIUS to approve the update. We know the dock to dock issue where the battery has to be removed has been addressed. We know the issue with the SIRIUS/Connect is being addressed. The auto-off feature isn't going to be removed and I didn't see any indication that it would be. We also know they are working on bringing the 128kb streaming to the Stiletto.. the reponse was Soon. Till now that was nothing but speculation about that. The Current Stiletto 100 will never be updated to do (g) only (b) in terms of wifi.

So, while we didn't tear the barn down with new information we have confirmed some information and we also know they would consider features that are requested. This is why we have the feature request thread, which I have directed them to read, but like with most thread all the good information just gets mixed in with the dicussion.

I am considering adding a thread that will be just for a running list of bugs and requested features. But I will not open this for discussion because that is why these threads get lost in the shuffle and no one wants to have to pan through post after post trying to see what has been reported and what has been requested.

Again, I think the chat went okay and I was more than pleased with it. Some of you seemed rather nitpicky after the fact, but maybe that is just me. Hopefully in that nitpicking you are just trying to provide needed feedback, at least that is what I hope.

DAB,

Thanks for the explanation. It was fun. Again, I wish there was more meat in the answers. A clock is nice.
I wonder how close it will be to what I posted back in October

You will be able to get this update via Wifi in the background while listening or by using the MSS Software and USB cable connected to your computer with internet access. There will be an update to the ZAP and OS.

I thought the chat was a good tool for us, thanks to the mods and such for getting it all setup for us. One question I didn't ask was about the volume control on the Stiletto and the remote as well for the home and car docks. It seems as though there's like 3 or so levels and that's all you get. It's not a smooth up and down on the volume. The display when it's in the car dock only shows the status bar for the volume going to about 80-85% and it doesn't go all the way. Since this is an aftermarket piece of equipment, it would be nice to be able to control the volume better on the Stiletto as I don't want to fumble with 2 remotes while driving (stiletto and my head unit remote).

As a side note, I tried holding the power button all the way down for 5 seconds in the home dock this morning to shut it off and when I put it in the car dock it powered back up (after 2 mins or so) and I didn't have to remove the battery. Basically it's doing the same thing by hard powering it down but at least I didn't have to remove the battery. The guy said last night though that this should be fixed. I can't wait for the new firmware!

23. lex412 asks: can photos eventually be sent to the stiletto of whats happening on the stern show for example?

SpecialGuest says: It is not recommended to use the Sportster home dock with the Stiletto
Huh? Is it me or does the answer not match the question?

Anyway...I missed the chat, got there an hour too late, but great job on getting this set up! While I don't think too much was learned, I took a few interesting things from it.

Sounds like there is a Stiletto 2 in the works with 802.11 G support and maybe video? Some of the insider's responses seemed very cryptic, but I can understand that on unreleased products. It also sounds like they are taking a lot of the feature requests under consideration for the next product (Stiletto 2) more than they are for the current Stiletto. At least that's what they did with the S50. Kind of a bummer but they gotta pay the bills.

At least we'll get a clock and maybe the premium wifi stream eventually.

ughhhhhhhhh, i forgot all about the chat. and noone asked this question:

will we be able to channel up/down anytime soon? going into the category list and going to the next channel to get from channel 14 to 15 just sucks.

also, will wifi show whats playing when you go into the category list instead of seeing descriptions of the channels

It really doesn't matter, just use whichever is more convenient. One suggestion I have prior to doing any upgrade is to make sure you do a hard shut down and restart prior. I'd go as far as suggesting removing the battery. This just clears out all the boogie men prior to the update. Probably not totally necessary, but just a suggestion based on my expereince.
