When you say Home Antenna, are you talking home antenna, or Outdoor Home Antenna? Outdoor Home antenna has a bigger diameter than a standard home antenna., I'm pretty sure it's RG58.

I'm talking about the one that comes with the home dock.

Yes, that's the HOME ANTENNA, not the OUTDOOR HOME ANTENNA.. While you can use the Home antenna outdoors, it's not the same thing. That's why I specified in what you quoted.

uses RG58 from receiver to the antenna.

I'm still not sure what the DOT Micro antennas use. That coax is even smaller than the coax on the home dock. I looked but there are no markings on that coax.

It's some sort of weird microline.. I'm sure it can be sourced but you're right that it isn't marked.

Newark Electronics carries all sorts of that stuff. The tools to crimp/strip/etc. are pretty cost preventative though if memory serves.

I suppose I better get out of here.. Have to drive to Boston and back in the storm.. Ah well, thank jeebus for Sirius.

The weekend's here and in the mail box this afternoon was my connector from TechToolSupply.com.

It took about an hour to splice and put the cable together. Here is the final result.

The Splice is not too ugly looking.

I started out by cutting the antenna connector off about 18" from the end. This made sure I had enough to play with should my stipping of the wires have problems. Everyone warned me that it would be tough but it was not bad at all.

I used a single edge razor blade to score the wire first. I taped it down to a piece of paper so it would not move around when I scored it.

Once I scored it I was able to grab the wires and pull them down removing them from the outer sheath.

I removed about 2 inches of the outer sheeting on both coax cables and pushed back the brade as far as it would go. I stripped and tinned the center connectors and soldered them.

I put shrink wrap over the center connector shrunk it down then pulled the brade from both sides. The coax with the SMB connector is larger than the other coax so its brade slid over the other brade so I was able to run some solder down between the two brades to connect them together.

I then put shrink wrap over the brade. Next I stripped the cables for the headphone adapter and soldered them and shrink wrapped them individually. I soldered the ground to the brade of the coax.

Finally I had one larger piece of shrink wrap that went over the entire splice. With all the splices and shrink wrap it is pretty secure.

I did some testing. I tested another antenna headphone against the then new connector with a Home antenna and basically I get an extra bar. Where I got 1 bar with the antenna headphones, I get two with the connector and the antenna. I'll do more testing later, but it looks like this project is now complete.

Next we need to figure out how to make the connectors that go into the bottom of the Stiletto and figure out that resister switch from internal to external anteanna.

Looks Good ! Mine turned out about the same I get three bars going through the home dock and two when directly from the new connector so I guess I`ll be ok reception wise. You did the smarter thing as it will cost me more that your cable to replace my MYFI dock I chopped up . I`m trying to see how I can come up with a configuration of batteries to get through a 8 to 10 hr work day with no AC or DC available .

Ideally Sirius will get the hint that we want such a thing. They're kinda numb over there sometimes though.

Yes it is . I had the MYFI cradle installed when I bought the Stiletto and tried it after a slight mod but the connectors must be wired up different but the basic plug is the same .
