Default Is it hackable?

Is it possible to hack the S100 to remove the 4 hour sleep limit in the car dock? Even if it could be increased to 24 hrs that would be perfect. Maybe we should take up a collection for the first guy who can figure it out.

When everything they claim is "unhackable" - Xbox 360, PS3, HD-DVD - end up being hacked within months of being released - my guess is soon or later someone will figure it out.

There is a grea prize hacking those devices, what would the real prize be for someone hacking the Stiletto? There just aren't enough of them that guys that get off into this really care enough to bother with it.

All I've gotten past is hacking the flash to get PAC files.

I would say that everything is definitely hackable, it is just being the brave person that wants to chance taking apart a $350 unit and taking the risk of not having it work. Believe me, there are people that are smart enough to figure it out.

Honestly, if you could hack it, what would you make it do?

Being able to share PAC files between devices. Also be able to rewrite the code for the device. eg. http://www.rockbox.org/

Good points, too bad those that would possible be interested in hacking the Stiletto probably don't even know it exist. The S50 was never hacked and it is going 1.5 years old, so I think you see my point.

The only thing I really want is for my S100 to wake up while in the car dock to start recording Howard every morning at 6am. This is the sole reason I bought the damn thing.

Keep asking Sirius to finish the clock feature, by adding an alarm function.

Edit: Howard seems to be such a fan of the S100, if some of his fans called or wrote him about the problems their having with recording his show, he could get Sirius to fix it? From what I've heard hes got some pull.

Rather than hacking the unit itself, hack the building blocks. Just use the home dock in your car.

You would only need to do two things.

1. Devise a mounting system
2. Deliver 5Vdc

Poor mans way would be to use epoxy and a heavy suction cup for the mounting and a power inverter with the wall wart.

Beyond that you could get as fancy with the mounting as your fabrication and workshop skills/tools allowed. For the 5V you would just need a pair of wire cutters and a 5V regulator.

It's probably possible to hack the Stiletto. They provide some of the open source components online and I'm sure someone could develop widgets to reflash the unit. It's Linux based internally.

http://www.sirius.com/opensource has the GPLed components with their edits.

However, there's some missing pieces, like what they're using for encryption for flashes, etc. There are some ways around that.

The big issue here though is the DMCA. It's likely rather illegal to be poking at the thing. I just hope communication stays open with Zing and they'll want to work with the community to improve upon the device. I'm a little more confident of this than I was with the S50, certainly.
