Default Stiletto in NYC

Thinking seriously of buying a Stiletto SL100 . I live In Middle Village , Queens. Anyone have experience with this unit and reception in the Queens/Brooklyn area of NYC. Saw a unit at Circuit City in Rego Park , it sounded really good and had three signal bars. I asked the guy working there if unit was receiving such a strong signal with the internal antenna. He said yes , I didn't believe him. What's the deal ? are there enough ground repeaters in the NYC to receive such a good signal indoors? Any Mac compatibility on the Horizon?

In NYC you should have great reception. There are people who live there and have the Stiletto who will respond.

I can't speak to reception in NYC, but to my knowledge there is no Mac compatible software on the horizon.

Thumbs up Manhattan

I live and work in Manhattan and I use my Stiletto both indoors and outdoors and get excellent reception. I'm just using the internal antenna, not the large headset.

The CC, BB and Radio Shack stores normally have repeaters inside for the demo units, your actual reception will not be as good.

Thanks, I suspected that something was up with that signal.

I think it's fair to say your signal strength will not always be as good, but you can still have great audio quality with a steady 1 out of 3 bars.

I got a stilleto 10 over xmas. I use it at work in lower manhattan and it's perfect, even without the headphones attached, (but I do sit next to large windows). At home, (a pre-war brick apartment building), the reception is really bad unless I put the unit right at the window. I'm considering buying a home kit, but haven't yet. Walking arounf the streets the reception is amazing.

I do have to say that since uopdating the firmaware the other night the reception has been cutting out all the time. I wish I had just left it with the software as it came. :-(

Hopefully the signal loss is temporary.

All in all, I am in love with this little radio.

Sorry Ryan, I should have been a little clearer. What I meant was that his signal level indoors will not be as high as inside a store.

I'm in the Bronx and I get GREAT reception even inside my apartment. When i go to a store for the most part I get reception up until I'm a few feet inside the door. But that's when the wifi feature comes in

If you are unsure about your area check out the repeater map on this link:

http://www.dogstarradio.com/sirius_map.php

If you are within the blue circle of a repeater you will be good to go. Also if you already have a Sirius radio check out the signal strength. If you get more than 50% steady "terrestrial" signal that means you have a repeater nearby and you will be allright. I get about 90% terrestrial inside my apt. Needless to say I LOVE my Stiletto.

If you decide to get it I suggest you do what I did. Get it from www.tss-radio.com they have it for 290 right now and you'll avoid paying sales tax. I also suggest you get it with the home dock just in case your reception is not as good inside your home due to the walls of your building/house, with a current mail in rebate from Sirius it will come out virtually free.

Good luck to ya

I don't know about NYC, but I was up here in MA in Worcester, and can get three bars off repeaters just using the built in antenna, and that is inside an elevator. Just becuase it looks good in a store doesn't mean that it isn't really good in real life. Being skeptical is good, just don't hold to those thoughts when you are proven wrong. It won't always be perfect, but in NYC there should be quite a few areas where you wil get 3 out of 3 bars, even inside.
