Default Questions regarding waking and recording

First, let me say that I love my Stiletto. I was one of the early adopters of the first S50 and it nearly drove me to drink.

Anyway, I have read the FAQ's. This is what it says regarding waking and recording:

"Q: Will STILETTO 100 automatically wake up to start a scheduled recording?
A: Yes, as long as the STILETTO 100 is plugged into a powered Home Dock and connected to an antenna that has a clear view of the sky, the device will automatically wake up to record the requested channel, then go back to sleep. Automatic wake and record is not currently supported when a STILETTO 100 is used with a Car Dock."

I have three questions:

1) While it states that autowake is not currently supported when used with a Car Dock, can anyone tell me if it is a planned feature for some future update? I intentionally hooked the dock up to constant power (even when the key's out and the car's off) so I could record shows during the day, but I obviously don't want it running all day.

2) Do you have to have the Home Dock to use the autowake feature? I have tried setting up recordings with the normal power adaptor plugged in and it doesn't seem to work unless I keep the unit on the entire time. The wake feature doesn't seem to work.

3) Assuming that I do end up getting the wake feature to work under scenarios 1 or 2 above or by getting a Home Dock, does the unit go back to "sleep" after waking and recording or does it remain on?

Thanks in advance,
Stewie

1. It will likely never be part of the car dock. They do not want to deal with lawsuits from idiots that wipe out their battery and the like.

2. It will not autowake in any scenario except docked in the home dock.

3. Unlike the S50, the S100 records while in sleep mode. Therefore, it will appear to still be off while it is performing a scheduled recording. Someone can verify, but it will not autowake from 'off' mode, only 'sleep' mode.

1. I can tell you there isn't likely any plans to start allowing recording while in the car dock

2. Yes as the FAQ says, you must have the home dock in order for it to wake up and record from sleep mode.

3. You will not be able to recorded using 1 or 2 unless you leave the tuner on 24/7 and in the car dock there is a 4 hour auto shut-off that will prevent you from leaving it on without any activity.

The bottom line is if you want to do some scheduled recordings where you don't have to baby sit this thing, you need to get a home dock.

Thanks for the info, guys. That's pretty much what I figured on all three questions, but it helps to have it verified. I do love having it hooked up to power full time in the car. I can put it on pause, go into a store, come back, and have a nice buffer. I put a carabiner on my key chain when I do this to remind me to turn it off, not that I need to any longer as I'm conditioned.

I guess I'll have to get the home kit and record the replay of the NFL channel's "Movin' the Chains" overnight and just deal with the 1 day delay.

The only other known problem with leaving it running inside a vehicle now that it is getting summer is heat. Many have found that the built in thermo protection will shut the Stiletto down, because it doesn't do well in ambient temps above 104 degrees. So, if you are just running in for a few you'll be okay, but if you stayed in for very long it will likely shut down.

Shuting down sounds so gentle, passive and nice (as oppossed to locking up.)
