Default Britney vs. Debbie

From my website's Bee-otch of the Day section...

Name: the media
Age: thousands
Occupation: overexposers of crap
Last Seen: everywhere
Bee-otched For: paying to much attention to BS

---

I never thought - at the age of 26 - that I would ever say this:

Goddamn, I'm getting old.

Last weekend, I was at Meijer, and at the checkout counter was the latest issue of the tabloid Star. The front cover stated that Britney Spears had told her two kids that they were mistakes.

Now, personally, I could care less about what Lil' Miss Britney does. Hell, I wear a seven-year-old T-shirt that says "Spear Britney" and wear it with pride. People still walk by me and say "I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!" I keep wondering, in the ten years she's been around, why Britney still makes the rounds in the entertainment biz, even though she's suffered through two marriages and two kids.

A day after I saw that headline, I was tuning to the live Webcast of The Fox in Traverse City, and they were airing a classic 1987 episode of American Top 40 with Casey Kasem. As I was tuning in, they were playing the tail-end of "Only In My Dreams" by Debbie Deborah Gibson. Now, Deborah was a woman whose briefcase could never be carried by Britney. Unlike Britney, Deborah wrote her own songs and produced. Hell, Deborah plays a piano.

Ten years after her first album came out, Deborah's career was reduced to Broadway and indie albums. Her indie releases sold nowhere near her first CDs, Out of the Blue and Electric Youth (one of them only sold 125,000 copies worldwide). So, what killed her career? Two words: Kurt Cobain. You see, when I was young, new things came out all the time. If something wasn't used as much, mother would put it in storage where it was forgotten about for years. Same thing for Debbi-er, Deborah. The girls who grew up listening to her music replaced her posters with images and more-mature sounds of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. However, outside of American Idol, the 2000s haven't created any trends to defame and destroy Britney.

The sad thing is that Britney hasn't released an album in almost five years and she's still living off the spotlight. If she released an album today, it wouldn't sell as much as her previous albums. Why? Simple. She's a mommy. She's used. We've all seen her twat post-childbirth and it's disgusting. She's just another Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan: MEDIAWHORE.

Ya know, maybe if the media started ignoring Britney, she'll be on the same level - if not lower - than Deborah Gibson. Hell, since her Larry King interview after she got out of jail,we haven't heard much from Paris Hilton. Thank God. Part of the reason is because many media outlets just got tired of her spreading a bad example to teens and other wannabes. True, Deborah isn't a slut like Britney (according to Wikipedia, she's still single at 37 and no kids ), but if the media can start ignoring her and allow her to disappear from the face of the earth, the same thing can apply to Britney.

And my "Spear Britney" shirt can be retired with pride.

I quite liking Debbie Gibson when she changed her name to Deborah.

Britney is at least entertaining enough to want to fallow. And she's still hot...

Hopefully Rick Schroder and Deborah Gibson will get together some day...

No, that's what k-f'ed did to her. I think semipenguin was planning to finish with a guardrail across the gullet, which would fit his description...
