Some stations in the area have hit $3.00 a gallon. The nearest one to me is at $2.89.

Here's what I've noticed here in KCMO:

2/15/06: $ 1.90/gal. (low-water mark of '06)
4/11/06: $ 2.53/gal.
4/12/06: $ 2.64/gal.
4/19/06: $ 2.74/gal.

Awhile back, I thought $ 1.80/gal was ridiculously high. Now $1.80 seems pretty cheap. I have a bad feeling we might see $3.15 here by Memorial Day if prices keep going up at the present rate (meaning some areas would be seeing $ 3.50/gal or more...yikes!!)

OMG I heard on the news this morning that it has reached $4.00 a gallon in parts of CA. This is %$#%$ ridiculous. Does it have something to do with the president of Iran saying that crude oil prices were still below their "real value"?? I really don't think it does, but, who knows for sure anymore....

It has to do with the fact that crude is at 74/bbl this morning. This is compared the the post-Katrina high of 70/bbl.

I guess it may be true then that the prices normally go up now because of down time due to required maintenance being done on the drilling equipment in preparation of the summer rush (whew that was a mouthful!) Never tracked it before so I don't know the history.

...or is this just what the oil company CEOs want us to believe?

Elmira NY as of this mourning (intentional mis-spelling )...

Low grade (86 cotane) - $3.09
Mid grade (90 octane) - $3.19
High grade (93 octane) - $3.29

The real crappy thing is that I live 80 miles from work and am nearing $80 a week in gas. Prices up where I live are on average .10 higher than the prices above.

Anyone else know that the retiring ex-president of Exxon/Mobil has just gotten a retirement package worth $400 million?? Not only that, but American oil companies have been posting record profits for the past few years?

Damn, Yo!

I did 60 miles one way for a while, but gas was still about $1.40 back then. Don't know if I could do that now unless I'm making stupid money.

One gas station today is listed about $1.69 but that's way down south. Wonder what's up.

I feel your pain, Dad. I have a long commute to work, too...not as long as yours, though. Perhaps it is time to ask for a cost of living raise....

And yes, the retiring CEO's retirement package and the record profits make me nauseous.

I remember the days of a 45 mile commute.. ahh.. Bought my first street motorcycle because of the commute and the fact that I didn't make squat at the time. Now I make a decent living, and have a 30 second commute to the office in my house.

Oh, you are so lucky! The long commute and gas prices getting higher (plus just getting tired of the job) adds to other stresses and is making the desire to start a home business more tempting.....

I wonder if the oil company CEOs are going to get a little slap on the wrist again soon...?

There are some pretty creative folks who are actively trying to solve these problems though. For instance, just today it was released in Forbes that there is a professor out in Oregon who has created a way to cheaply and efficiently produce biodiesel.

Interesting. Many thanks to the people who are doing this type of work. I hope they succeed with their efforts. .

When I started working here about 4.5 years ago, gas was somewhere around $1.75/gallon and I was averaging $35-$40 a week.

Actually, I did that and got a 4% increase. Not much, but it helps.

I have 2 saving graces... 1, I can write a lot of it off on my taxes and 2, my parents live 5 minutes from where I work, so if need be, I can crash in their guest room durring the week so I don't have to make the drive every day.
