I recall a program on NPR talking about Hydrogen Fuel Cells a couple of years ago (before I had Sat Radio) and they said that an electric car powered by one of these fuel cells would have enough juice left over to power your house and neighborhood. Granted, as everyone has already said creating the Hydrogen is the tough part, especially since you need a fossile fuel to do so. Doesn't seem like there is much savings.

Of course, NPR was quick to point out that the current government was doing much at the time to fund on going development - I think they were hinting at the political reammifications and who would eventually be losing out, namely big oil and the electrical generators.

The key is to find a cheap, efficient way to create the fuel needed to run the generator without polluting the environment.

I was disappointed when a particle accelerator project was cut in the 90s. Seems advancement in quantum mechanics could be inportant down the road?

Wow! Was that or what?

Quick response, tho. From what I hear from physicists I am acquainted with, that accelorator was of an obsolete and flawed design.

Yeah I guess it's off topic on hydrogen. But in the realm of alternative fuels or more far reaching, alternative locomotion. Quantum research should stand out in my opinion.

i had the opportunity to talk to a higher up in the oil industry, while sitting in the jacuzzi.

he confirmed for me that it has/is quite common for the oil industry to buy out patents, and then burn them. carbuerators in the past, turbine engines, fuel delivery systems - anything that would disrupt the sale of oil.

and then we send young kids to war to protect the oil economy. i just dont understand how these people can sleep at night - they literally have no conscience whatsoever.

I was always under the impression that when a patent was registered a copy was kept, otherwise I could say I invented Coca Cola.

hi rc,

my bad wording on my above post.

the patent would still be registered, but the instructions or how-to-build, etc. would be burned.

i would be interested as all get-out to find out just exactly what all these patents are that the oil industry has. but i havent a clue as to how to find out.

obviously one would need to look at the patent office web site, or in person. but how would you go about finding them ? i doubt if arco's patents are listed under arco - they probably use some phony business name so that no one would suspect.

i guess arco was a bad example, as they are now owned or bought out by some english outfit.

but then all the oil companies may work on it together - basically a shared expense to buy out any such inventions under some other name.

hi rc,

i couldnt tell if you were just being sarcastic, or you were actually asking.

this article is about a station in chino, opening feb of 2005, so it is after the article stating we had 10 stations. what stations are actually open today, i am not sure.

honda article from july, 2005

says that the nation has 26 hydrogen stations in the "hydrogen highway", 9 of them outside california, which would mean that there would be 17 in california, up since the original article.

Most interesting. Wonder what the whackos think of Bush's efforts in this area.

I've seen those since the 80s being advertised. If they actually worked I would wonder that in 20 years people would have started using them. The US depertment of Engergy considers those hydrogen fuel station expirements "High Risk" and "Highly Experimental".

The author states about 5 MPG extra with his devise asuming you get 25 MPG he says you "could" get 29. I would wonder how much that elecrolyte he uses would cost to replenish? The fuel economy could be possible by indroducing another compustable into the chamber. That's how other liquid based fuel additives work. I don't know enough about the science he's admitting too though. Its experimental and fuel efficiency might not go up at all depending on driving patterns etc. But hey it's only about 200 bucks. So if your inlcined go for it.
