Global warming is, IMO, a myth.

The only reason to switch to clean or cleaner emission fuels, right now, is to reduce dependance on foreign sources. The only reason to sustain development is, in the long run, it's better than running out of oil and having nothing to fall back on.

Logically, we have decades or centuries ahead before we can reverse the damage that's been done. That should be a sufficient timeframe to develop alternatives. If it isn't, we're screwed anyway, so we might as well be comfortable.

I think I'm gonna go home and turn on both the heater and air conditioner at the same time, with every light in the house on, the refrigerator door open, and the faucet pouring water straight into the drain.

Kiss the world goodbye!

Not quite. While it may not be causing global warning, there is a very valid reason outside of foreign dependence to go to alternative cleaner fuels: Air quality.

I wasn't clear, it seems. My fault.

From an economic standpoint, I stand by my point. From a health standpoint, what I posted is idiotic.

But very few things get done, especially on a global scale, to save lives. Lives are cheap. Research and Development are expensive. Proof: Most third world leaders, given a choice between feeding their population and buying shiny new assault rifles and grenade launchers, are going to do what?

Global Warming is a religion.

Unless he's right and there is no global warming. But you are always right, aren't you?

I think RC puts it a bit harshly, but he might have the truth there. Substitute 'Millenia' for 'Global Warming' and 'Prophet' for 'Scientist' and it does look alarmingly like a doomsday cult. But, instead of burning heretics at the stake, the media is satisfied with excoriating disbelievers as the minions of large corporations.

The capn hit the nail on the head. "Believe!" Repent or ye are doomed to a fire in the form of global warming. Ignore geological history and other facts. Say ye.

All you guys are doing is showing how ridiculous religion is in general. Again, people like you are the ones in the way of progress and probably ultimately the reason this planet is going to be really fuct up. I would rather believe the overwhelming majority of scientists about global warming then political and religious leaders who dismiss and have have nothing to back it up.

I'm guessing that neither of you have kids.

You've got a lot of anger there, Juice. Miss a nap?

An 'overwhelming majority of scientists' believed the Earth was flat, then it was the center of the universe, then in a 'perfectly circular' solar system. An overwhelming majority of Germans elected Hitler to be their Chancellor. I am not impressed with 'overwhelming majorities'.

What is your idea of progress?

How do religious leaders have anything to do with this topic?

The religious and political leaders were the ones telling you that the Earth was flat and/or the center of the universe.

Thank your for playing You've Missed the Point!

A religious leader, ie the Pope, made decisions on heresy. Monarchy and nobility (not elected, therefore not politicians) curried favor with the papacy for their own purposes. Rarely was piety involved with that.

Todays scientific community has a less inconvenient means of being coerced into conformity (being burned at the stake tended to ruin your day) known as funding. Modern day dissenters (ie NOT the majority) find they don't get grants.

So it becomes a question of motive. Why would (as you put it) political and religious leaders (especially the latter) want encourage or discourage research to either prove or disprove global warming? I can easily see why the Left or Right would want a particular outcome. Can't you? But I see no connection between Religion and global warming.

Maybe you're confusing global warming with evolution.

global warming like all the funny names we give everything is for real but the name confuses. People think that HUMANS are to blame for global warming. It's something that happens REGARDLESS of our interaction. UNFORTUNATELY we are doing our best to ASSIST the process by polluting the air and speeding up the process.

But does anyone really care? The auto industry is crying about being broke but they could EASILY fix that. A bunch of highschool rejects just built a sportscar that runs on Soybeans and gets 50+MPG and goes 0-60 in 5seconds.

You telling me GM can't reinvent say the oldsmobile name as a diesel hybrid and clean up! Of course they can. We are too afraid to invest in something that's not crude oil related.

So stupid.

If we decided to change over to soybean diesel we'd be as close to as self sufficient as we can get and tell the towel heads to stick their oil in their asses. The entire middle of the country should and can be leveled and turned into farmland for soy production. Can't do that in the desert. We'd never have to deal with them again.

Clean air, plenty of work for americans, money staying in america, middle east can go to hell and we are cutting pollution exponentially.

Article

The company claimed in July 2004 that it would create several thousand jobs in St. Louis to produce a water-powered car that probably would make the need for gasoline obsolete in 100 days.

It's not enough to be concerned. You have to be knowledgeable. Listening to those preaching gloom and doom is fine. Not questioning their facts and research is stupid. I would be willing to bet all of the investors who got taken were nice, caring people who wanted to do something to help the planet.

Global warming may exist. Man-made emissions may be a contributing factor. Hydrogen powered vehicles might help. But none of this is going to happen in the next hundred days.

Article.

Actually, I've got a lot of respect for someone who does the speedlimit when he or she knows that someday, someone will pull out a .357 magnum and vent their roadrage.

Okay, that's an exaggeration. But, still, they put their money where their mouth is.
